i guess it is possible that mark is correct and he is overrated.Agree 100% I thought the lowest he would come in at was $25 million a year. Even more so after the KC guard got like 23-24 million a year I thought that a top 5 tackle would not take less money then a top 5 guard.
I think Tom is a bit of a PFF darling and he is better liked by fans/media than NFL people. Honestly the contract reflects it, $22m is fair for everyone. He’s GBs best OL and it’s good to keep him, but it’s not market-resetting money.i guess it is possible that mark is correct and he is overrated.
honest opinion: if the packers had left jenkins at left tackle, would he have been better than walker?I think Tom is a bit of a PFF darling and he is better liked by fans/media than NFL people. It’s hard to tell, I think they tried Jenkins at LT when he was coming off his ACL injury, so I don’t think we saw the best of him. I do think his best position overall is LG. Walker is a good LT. He’s playable. You want to do better but you can also do worse. Ideally I think he’s your backup swing tackle but he might make more than Tom on the open market.honest opinion: if the packers had left jenkins at left tackle, would he have been better than walker?
You can make a great guard out of a tackle but center seems to be one of those very specific positions where you want a guy who played center to be your center, and positional flexibility is less important. They took Jenkins over Eric McCoy (a true center); then took Myers over Creed Humphrey (a true center). You can’t say Jenkins was a miss because he has not been at all, but McCoy has been a hit as a center in new orleans.Unfortunately, Green Bay's Offensive Line really helped Love with his Sunday cardiac workouts. Our best offensive lineman, is only that, our best. He isn't somebody eles's best - and might not be somebody else's starter.
I'm hoping I'm wrong on Tom.
I think we're going to have a problem with Jenkins. And, I was surprised that Center was less valued than Guard. Aren't Centers responsible for line calls. I think great Centers are far more difficult to find than guards.
Oh well. Hope this works out.
I think that's a bit of a generalization.... What scheme are you playing - gap, zone, or a mix of both? All that factors in. GB has had a bit of a hard-on for the multi-position type OL. You can argue for and against that. You can make a great guard out of a tackle but center seems to be one of those very specific positions where you want a guy who played center to be your center, and positional flexibility is less important.
