Packers 2025-26 Season Thread

Simmons is young, athletic, and versatile player who has played a bunch on special teams. If the contract makes sense it seems like a decent risk as a back-up LB. Adds athleticism and depth where it's needed and hopefully at this point he should come cheap.

he had some decent numbers with arizona as a left inside linebacker in a 3-4, but he played very few games with the giants who moved him to safety. it seems to have been a failed experiment. if he's moved back to linebacker, he may be better than mcduffie or hopper.
I remember when he came out in that draft, he was the classic "tweener". Now they refer to these guys as "he's not a this, he's not a that, he's a weapon!" but these players never seem to quite work out. I thought when GB hired Hafley it was a sign they wanted to play more of that straightforward Saleh style defense, not tinker around with athletes trying to figure out what do with them.

it's just a visit. doesn't mean they are definitely going to sign him. but if they can sign him for veteran minimum, he could be defensive depth at least, or maybe he just plays special teams.

I don't know that they are thinking of him as playing a major role at LB. He's played a fair amount of special team's snaps and apparently has done it fairly well. I see him as a 5th/6th LB who mostly plays teams and maybe helps you on defense in specific situations but not as a core piece of the defense, so no need to adjust anything to fit his "special" abilities - or lack of them. Plus, if the guarantee is low enough and he doesn't show you anything in camp, you can just move on.

Kicking the tires in case they don't get what they want in the draft maybe? sh))
Agree this close to the draft they probably want to see if they don't find a LB in the draft if he is worth signing.

His scheme isn't Saleh to me, he has his own spin in coverage... plays more cover 3
What about the front 7 though? I associate the multi-position athlete player more with a Pettine kind of scheme.

So another CB on the trade market. Jalen Ramsey and Miami agree to look for a trade. My guess Ramsey once again crying about his contract and Miami has zero interest in redoing it only 1 year into the 3 year $72 million deal he signed in Sept. 2024. So makes me think Alexander trade value is even less now with Ramsey on the market. Might just make sense to keep Alexander for 2025.
