Packers 2023-24 Season Thread

Spending money on good players is the least of my concerns. There is a ton of league money to go around, there's a ton of franchise money to go around, and none of it is my money anyway so just as well see it spent on players.

I guess my issue is that under TT GB had the practice of moving on from players when their contract balloon years came along, and rather than do that, Gute/Russ Ball have been extending the stay of players and kicking the can of the cap burden down the road. Maybe it makes sense for a franchise LT or something but they did it for too many mid-level guys.
I truly think Rodgers had to much say of roster moves and was able to get certain guys he was close to a contract to keep him happy. Ted I think told Rodgers pretty much what he told everyone else go to hell when they suggested roster moves.

Ted never told so much as a mosquito to go to hell. He was consistent, you knew exactly what to expect, you didn't need to ask him for guys because you knew what the answer would be. At least there was clarity back then.

I totally agree. They've reverted to the old Mike Sherman method of handling the cap. He got us in hell over it. Thompson changed that immediately. He may have made mistakes, but he knew how to control the money flow, even though it wasn't always popular.
well you know what they say? it's better to get rid of a player three years too early than three years too late.

Did he tell guys to actually go to hell no but no one was going to him to ask a say in the roster because he would have said that.

The contract to Bak I can't put that on Gute. At the time Bak was one of the top if not the top LT heading into his FA year. No one could predict 6 weeks later he would have a knee injury he would never recover from.
Doesn't mean it was wise to give him THAT contract, and to redo it to kick the can down the road.

How much say did Rodgers actually have?? he was complaining about not even being in the conversation and people got bent out of shape wondering why he should have a say when I don't think that is what he was asking for.

They signed an old and washed-up Randell Cobb for him....nuff said

and they pretty much had to do that since gute had screwed the pooch on keeping the wr room well-stocked with actual nfl pass catchers and not just a bunch of rookies who can't seem to hold onto the ball or run the right routes. if gute did his job there would have been wr talent being developed all along the way.

I thought Gute actually said GB signed him because Aaron asked GB to sign him.
