Packers 2022 Thread

This is why I am saying Alexander's agent probably has said to Ball ok Jalen Ramsey's contract is the base we do a deal. Alexander is a young top CB in the NFL you can't let him walk so you pretty much got to play ball and work off that deal.
It’s more about structure issues and Ramsey deal was what 2 years ago? Not sure if that’s even a baseline anymore

I still think it's one if not the highest CB deal it was 5 years 100 million think he got like 30-40 million guranteed at signing so that would still be a decent contract to work off of.

Thing with Jaire it takes both sides to agree. Alexander would be foolish to ask for anything less then a record contract. Packers have history of wanting all guranteed money paid out in first couple years so any ext might not save much if any money on a contract this year. So extending Alexander is not as easy as it seems to save cap. Even more so if he gets a 40-50 million SB.
I hear that but he had a shoulder injury last year. IMO, that could bring his price down a little. If they do not extend him then we will see if he stays healthy this year.

If Jaire is waiting on making a deal he’s risking is financial future beyond the 5th year option.
If he pushes the waiting out into 2023 GB could use the franchise tag (again).
I would think his risk of injury that could diminish his long term value would be greatly at risk by waiting, if that’s what’s going on.
Getting a deal done sooner, rather than later, would help protect his long term financial future.
If he’s being advised otherwise, then he’s getting bad advise.

Thing is if you feel you are the best CB in the NFL would you take less of a contract just to get money?

I was thinking more how the landscape has changed, more guaranteed money and such. It’s more player driven than the past. Not saying it’s NBA player power but Adams and Hill basically played hard ball and won
The difference of course is that those guys were both going into 3rd contracts, and there's positional value at play. WR vs CB. Not really apples to apples.

Yeah to me I think a elite CB is worth more then a elite WR. Seems to me it's easier to find a WR that can be very good then a CB that can be very good.

Maybe. Shut down corners are rare especially at his age and it’s still a $17m tag charge not out of line with WR. I just feel agents will push to envelope, how it pans out not sure

Not saying he should take less than what market value is.
But that’s a subjective issue. Jaire might feel, at this time, that his market value is worth more than what the Packers, or anyone else, might consider his market value.
Just because Jaire says he’s worth “X” amount doesn’t mean that’s what his market value is. It’s actually his “perceived” value.
If he had not been hurt and missed 2/3 of last season, I believe he could make a case for himself.
What is he risking?
Does he bet on himself that he won’t get injured again this next season?
After last year, I’d hedge that bet if I was him.

Actually right now there’s no rush to get a deal done.
But he should reach an accord with GB by the start of TC so he doesn’t put his financial future at risk.
