Packers 2022 Thread

Actually they do. Tack on a roster bonus or 2 probably reduce the cap. And if he produced in 2022 some financial certainty
He makes less then $4 million not going to get any cap savings IMO when you figure in a base salary and any pro-rated SB.

Lazard will show up when it's time. He's not stupid enough to throw away what is a promising pay day.
Agree. But I think if team was interested in giving him long term deal it would have happened. I think this is just Lazard protesting team not willing to give him one.

So Watson was at camp. I did not know if he would be there or not since he still has not agreed to his contract yet.

Also saw Rodgers talked up Watson and Romo in his PC yesterday which means nothing at this point.

I wouldn't be giving Lazard a long term agreement at this point either to be honest. He hasn't shown to the Packers that he's going too be a #1, and despite his experience, hasn't proven he can hold onto a #2 spot in the pecking order.

I think they'd prefer waiting to see what they have in this incoming crop to see what's best for the team beyond 2022.

It appears the drama between the Packers and Rodgers is over, however. On Tuesday, the franchise legend said that he's "definitely" going to retire as a Packer, according to The Athletic -- unless they trade him. Something that obviously seems incredibly unlikely. Rodgers hasn't made a decision on when he will decide to hang up the cleats, and it sounds like it could be a year-by-year case.

"The playing is easy. That's the easy part. It's the other part that's a grind. ... It seems like a slightly bigger commitment to come up to being the guy again in another season," Rodgers said. "Obviously I don't want be a bum standing back there playing like crap and not able to move around, so if the talent goes, it's a no-brainer, but it's a little harder when you still can really play and the mental part is difficult."

"This is my 18th season. Of course you think about the next chapter and what's next in your life all the time. It doesn't mean you're not fully invested," Rodgers said. "When I said I'm back, I'm 100 percent invested, and Matt (LaFleur) and I keep in touch all the time, and Tom and the young quarterbacks, and when I'm here, I'm all in, and those guys know that. They know what to expect from me, the type of play, the type of leadership, and that's what they're going to get."

Right now I think he would be smart to bet on himself. He has a big year he could set himself up nicely in the UFA market.

Almost exactly what Favre used to say when his career was winding down

The idea is as much cost certainty as cap savings. Both sides benefit

As TW said he's really never take hold of that 2 role much less show he could be a 1. Make him prove it to earn a deal.
Fine if he proves it your SOL. Make the guarantees roster bonus’s and get some protection.
