Packers 2022 Thread

I don't know if the link below will open because it's a subscription, but this Washington Post article I read this morning features an anonymous NFL exec whose team also has dealt with an aging star QB situation. His claim is that Rodgers looks uninterested in really following through on plays, ready to take a sack rather than move-and-look, and that he's becoming once again passive-aggressive about the coach and the team. This exec says the Packers should've traded him when they had the chance. The article also talks about Brady's struggles but suggests that at least that team has a defense to hang onto while the offense tries to right the ship.

I think that if this guy is right in his interpretation of what he's seeing, this season's team has greater potential to implode than I think many of us have been thinking.

I just want to be the first to say I was in favor of trading him when they had the chance. Now if they turn it around and win it all, I'll gladly eat crow.

I completely agree Arod looks disinterested and doesn’t care to put it all out there…

Some people might believe he left the building this past January. He reminds me of a guy I know, who worked for a company that I helped move to Texas, years ago. His job was disappearing up North, and to get a severance package, he had to stay with them until the move was completed, or he was no longer needed.

They had offered him his job, down in Texas, but it would be as a new hire, and, if I recall correctly, at a salary level roughly 20% below what he was getting up North. He had roughly 4 months left, and wasn't moving. He was staying put, near family.

Everything he did, at work, was nothing more than going through the motions.

That's what I think I'm seeing in Rodgers. He already sees the handwriting on the wall, and does not see another ring for himself in GB. If he does play again, it will be somewhere else. Even that, I think, is a reach. I think he calls it a day.

One of biggest issues I think is attitude, not just the pouting either. This team really thinks it’s still elite and it will all click. They just have to keep doing what they’re doing. But they’re not elite, and so in order to win they’ll have to work harder than they are used to. But what they’re saying tells me they don’t realize that.

This team is in trouble. Big trouble from a mental standpoint.

I guess we can start the 2023 offseason needs list now:

OL major need
WR major need
FO major need for upgrade in scouting
TE big need
LB big need
RB Jones and Dillon probably aren’t doing it alone need another RB in the mix

For some reason, in my mind, that Pats game against a 3rd string QB was the start of it. Lost the last 3 and the Bills are up next. Could be 4 in a row and we'll get to see if there is any leadership in the room. Not sure that will make any difference as it looks like the talent on this team isn't playing very talented.

Tampa was. They had no WR, a bad OL.
