Official Week 17 Green Bay vs Minnesota Thread

The complexity of the game makes refereeing impossible for those guys. We sorely need professional referees, and there is a need for more technology involved.
sb(i realize that there are purists who say that bad calls and missed calls are a part of the game. but, i agree that we need a better system of catching the cheaters. there's no way (in my mind) that cheating should be a part of the game. teams like the lions exploit this weak point by cheating on every single play, knowing full well that the refs can't possibly call everything. i don't think it adds to the game, and i don't believe that it is a good lesson for the kids who play the game to teach them that cheaters do indeed prosper. whatever happened to sportsmanship? sb(

edit: and when you stop to realize how many millions of dollars hang in the balance of outcomes of the games, it makes no sense that we have to rely so heavily on bad officiating to determine those outcomes.

Owners refuse to do what BB has suggested in the pass. Make every call reviewable. You don't get any extra challenges but if think the flag is bad you can challenge it but the owners will never do this because they treat the refs with kid gloves despite stats proving the refs are getting worse each year and the NFL is not getting quality replacements as they are often getting refs from the mid-majors to replace any ref that leaves.

It was a 57-58 yard fieldgoal try at the end of the half. Personally, I would have thought our brilliant Special Teams Coach would have called off any aggressive attempt to block this low percentage kick so as not to give them another chance. But that's just me.

I think it was a bad ref call. BUT, I think it was dumber by the Pack. Don't even give the refs a chance to award another try. Little things

Bill Belicheck and the Patriots made a living by doing exactly what you're alluding to with the Lions - and it was quite obvious in our last game. As was briefly mentioned yesterday - being the youngest team in the league (again), we don't have that experience in knowing what we can get away with, that veteran teams thrive on. But it sure seems to be getting crazier . . .
