I'm not certain the Badgers have encountered this yet, but it's already started down here in Texas. At least there are fairly accurate rumors. Guys who are on the fence as to whether or not to enter the draft are getting agents to speculate roughly how much money they'd get in a first NFL contract, and using that figure to pretty much "negotiate" a deal to stay in school for another year, if the NIL money can match the income they'd get from that pro contract.

Going along with this, the "agents" are quietly going about the business of floating "what if's" around the major schools relating to their clients opting to enter the portal. The question is, "Would school XXX supporters gather more NIL money for said player than the school he's at?" Of course, it's all hypothetical, because nobody would even consider extorting money like that...... would they? sc))

BREAKING: The NCAA is, for the time being, legally barred from enforcing any rules limiting Name, Image and Likeness within its member institutions, and the question now is whether there will be any rules regarding NIL ever again.
The decision was handed down Friday by US District Judge Clifton L. Corker, ruling on the case brought by the attorneys general of Tennessee and Virginia brought late last month.

That lawsuit was brought in response to the NCAA investigating the University of Tennessee for allegedly violating NIL rules in its recruitment of quarterback Nico Iamaleava. The NCAA accused Tennessee and its collective, Spyre Sports, of violating its rules when Spyre Sports flew Iamaleava on a charter plane from California to Tennessee and offered him a marketing contract worth up to $8 million.

The SCOTUS ruling was clear to begin with, the NCAA is NOT going to get a favorable ruling ever again on NIL or enforcement of it.

They've pretty much lost control over the whole thing related to college football. They still hold some control over some of the other sports, but that's going to fall by the wayside soon enough.

the govt pretty much say that college football is FA and you are allow to pay kids to come to your school. Next step is they are full employees of the school that get paid a wage and get full benefits

The ruling would actually relate to all sports, men's and women's. Catilan Clark, the Iowa basketball player has deals with:
Nike
Buick
Gatorade
State Farm
Bose
Shoot-A-Way
Hy-Vee
H&R Block
Topps
Goldman Sachs
The Vinyl Studio

There might be more. But, in total, her deals are worth over $3 mill a year. She'd do better if she could stay in college instead of going to the WNBA.

Ain't no limits out there.

you're talking about a generational talent though. this is not the norm. the average starting players that don't get that kind of special attention aren't making millions off of nil.

My biggest issue is the NIL and transfer portal together. They need to not allow these kids to transfer every year if they want to. Need to go back to old rule you can transfer one time after that you will have to sit out a season. Right now you will allow kids to be a FA every year if they want to go into the portal see what the biggest offer is and transfer.
