NFL tells NFLPA have players interview or else

On Sirius NFL radio this morning they were saying NFL just wants to talk to these players nothing more and that after they talk they should be cleared in short order.

If this was just a thing to say hey we looked into it why the threat to suspended them. Why not tell players hey we don't plan to do anything just talk to us so we can say we looked into it and we are going to say there is nothing here and clear you. Though if the players were told this before and refused to interview still why not interview if all it was going to be was a show interview so the NFL could say they looked into the matter.

Wonder how Matthews and Peppers interviews went today? I remain concerned with the precedent this sets that allows any sports reporting organization (rinky-dink or otherwise) to purposefully generate ratings and/or create team distractions by simply reporting "rumors" which will now be investigated.

It's kind of scary to think of it in that manner. I sure hope this doesn't spawn any copycats.

I'm fairly confident they will be cleared. Despite it being ballyhooed as a witch hunt by the NFL, I believe it was their duty to ask the tough questions because there were accusations out there, on the board.

The comments made were recanted because there was an obvious threat of a law suit, not necessarily because it was 100% false. I believe like many of you, that the media turned this into a circus. They do that with everything, for just a little more face time and ratings.

Ratings grab for who? Not the league. Maybe Al Jazeera but that's it.

I too think they'll be cleared and don't believe it's a witch hunt. All I'm implying is that there must be a set of guidelines that Goodell/NFL (hopefully with agreement from NFLPA) must use consistently in responding to these accusations; specifically "if to investigate", "when to investigate", "how to investigate", and "how to hold accuser accountable".

If subjective and/or no guidelines, then Goodell/NFL deserve the criticism they get! If it's perceived they'll react to every accusation with interviews, press conferences, threats of suspension, etc. think of the circus this will be to the team and fans whose players are being accused (God forbid during, let's say, a Super Bowl run.) Pretty convenient way for an accuser to distract and an awesome way for sports center (think Spinzone or TMZ) to pick up ratings on just a tweeted rumor!
