John Madden Tribute

Watched Vince Lombardi a Football Life few days back. Had Madden on it saying when he was a coach at a junior college he saved up some money to go to a coaching clinic. Vince Lombardi was the guest speaker. He said he was foolish as he sat in the back of the room when a legend like Lombardi was speaking. Saying Lombardi spent 8 hours talking on one subject and that was the power sweep. Madden said listening to Lombardi taught him he knew nothing about football and that if he wanted to make it he had to start studying more and that was one of the major things that got him to improve his coaching.

I remember when Madden called Green Bay "The Mecca of Football." He said the NFL should build a shrine to the game, and the Packers. It wasn't just a passing statement, it was an ongoing statement every time he got the chance to do a game in GB.

He would praise everything about Green Bay, and made people believe there was something special about the field. It's stuck, and we can thank John for doing such a credible job of selling the Packers to the world.

Would like to see someone compile a list of football vocabulary that can be directly attributed to Madden. I believe the term 2 gap was a Madden created phrase .... could be wrong though.
