2025 Badger Football Thread

Yes, we're losing players to the portal.

Trech is probably the worst loss, but you can't blame him, Wisconsin has ZERO passing game -ZERO - A Horrible Offensive Line that gives no time to throw and Quarterbacks who may not be able to hit the broad side of the barn from 10 feet. If he wants to play in the NFL, he has to go. Best wishes for him.

The rest? They're the 2d, 3d, and worse string (even if they were starting) that believe they're overlooked. It's the modern way. Instead of busting ass to beat out the guy in front of you, pack up and go somewhere else. Best wishes for them.

BUT, there are all kinds of players in the portal. Admittedly, Wisconsin is not going to get the 'WOW' Blue Chips. But, there are all kinds of players out there. There must be some hungry hustlers that need a chance to make an impact. I'm not saying Wisconsin will compete for the National Championship, but there are guys out there that can help us beat Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Michigan State, and others and get us back on the path.

It can be done. On Wisconsin! Forward!

i'm actually surprised that he was only #3. who was #1 and #2? are they still on the team?
Lance Mason the #1 TE led the team and Vinny Anthony was the leading WR. Both of them had a mediocre 400ish yards for the season.

Anthony is a senior and is done. Mason might be done as well, but he's part of a lawsuit seeking another year from the NCAA, so who knows.

Trech had a little over 200 yds on the year.

thanks, 57. i had no idea that kekahuna only had +/- 200 yards receiving. it seems like i was always hearing his name brought up.

Jake Renfro is returning to college football for a 7th season with a medical hardship.

He is entering the transfer portal. #Badgers

Best of luck to Rebfro because he sure as heck didn't have much luck at UW. He had nothing but bad luck on the injury front while in Madison as he was available for less than half of the games over the past 3 seasons.. A healthy Jake Renfro would be a big help to the Badgers in '26, but under the circumstances I can't fault him for wanting to play his last season somewhere else.

You guys can couch this any way you want but we lost our starting center and our best slot WR...maybe best athlete and a bunch of depth already.
This whole ho hum it will be alright... okay but if we get in a funk next season no complaining from those downplaying this stuff.

From my perspective I'm not trying to ho-hum the portal losses at all, just looking at the situation without any emotion, just numbers.

As I said, Renfro would be a big help in '26. Same with Trech. The thing is, every team seems to lose players every year and I'm expecting the worst for the Badgers this year but there is no sense, for me anyway, to make a big deal of each of these guys. It just gets exhausting, especially once the really important guys hit the portal and the number of defections gets well into the teens, I suspect.

I mean heck, a stable, well-coached team like Iowa lost double digit guys in the portal last year. Based on that it wouldn't surprise me if Wisconsin lost 20 or more this year. The portal = 20 guys out and 25-30 coming in - welcome to college football in 2025.

And yes, I'll kinda be bitching next year if they stink because Fickell will have messed up a solid program over his 4 years.

I'm not ho humming anything.

I'm just accepting modern college sports.

Trech would hurt if we had anybody who could throw. We don't. The kid wants to play in the pros. Of course he's leaving. Most wide receivers in the NFL didn't make it because of some Jet Sweeps. Yes, it will be a loss. But, only if we get somebody who can pass the ball to play quarterback.

Renfro. He's Wisconsin's 2025 starting center - a line that was less protective than 2 Mississippis. Maybe we can find some offensive lineman that can protect to 3 Mississippis. Plus, seriously - 7th year? Is he about to get his Doctorate? He's not supposed to be able to play 2026.

I wish both of them and all of the transfers out of Wisconsin well.

All, I'm saying is that there are what appear to be hungry hustlers that were overlooked or passed over out there. We need to get them.

And, next year after we win 8 and a bowl game - we're still going to have 20'ish players hit the transfer portal because rather than bucking up and busting a hump to beat out the guy in front of them these kids transfer.
