Big Ten statement to
@On3sports
on Wisconsin's lawsuit filed against Miami:"The Big Ten Conference is aware of the litigation recently filed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison against the University of Miami and is supportive of UW-Madison's position. As alleged, the University of Miami knowingly ignored contractual obligations and disregarded the principle of competitive equity that is fundamental to collegiate athletics. The Big Ten Conference believes that the University of Miami's actions are irreconcilable with a sustainable college sports framework and is supportive of UW-Madison's efforts to preserve."

BS... the big ten and UW are treating it like an employment contract... it's not. None of the current case law supports this lawsuit. If UW loses, it will open itself to a counter-suit of epic proportions. Idiots

He's one guy... he didn't want to play in Madison, get over it.

A contract is a contract, if it was signed. But I think the stand here is the principle as much as it is the contract. Also, I keep hearing they're supposed to be treated like employees, but now you say it's not an employment contract - I'm confused. But it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Remember that all of this took place before the house settlement, so everything is null and void. Miami can easily kill all that crap. His NIL deal wasn't between UW and him; it was between the player and the provider. UW is not even on the contract, which he withdrew from school... the judge has already ruled that it cleared him to enroll in another school.

So, you're not a party to the contract, and a federal judge has already thrown out one of your arguments. It was before the house deal was settled. I mean, come on ,...you have to be a complete idiot to try and do this.

I agree with Mark. And, from the beginning have always felt that UW had no rights against the Kid. Maybe Karma bites him, maybe it doesn't. But, Wisconsin did not contract with the Kid - the Kid contracted with a 3d Party to pay the Kid NIL benefits. The 3d party probably has rights against the Kid, but who knows if they want to exercise them - Miami might make a better NIL platform than Wisconsin?

Although I cannot prove it, I believe the Big 10 is using Wisconsin as a test regarding its supposed services contract. It's BS, and Wisconsin will come out worse for wear in this and the Big 10 will deny involvement so it won't affect the Big 10's Big Schools: Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oregon.

It's hard for me to believe that Wisconsin is not being strenuously advised against this. I know I would have many CYA letters if a client insisted on a path like this.

This is just like when the NFL used the Pack to fight the Tush Push and ran away when it wasn't working. But, it will end up worse, because it will make Wisconsin look like a last resort choice for High School kids.

I agree that the Big 10 is using UW as a test on this - to get some ruling that they can use as a starting point going forward.
But all this hopping around multiple times in one transfer window is getting crazy - and it's gotten out of hand. I know Mark and others disagree, but I believe there needs to be some better "guidance" around the transfer rules.
