2023-24 Milwaukee Bucks Season Thread

It was awful. We actually turned it off.

If you look at the ages of our core players, you can see it's win now or never, and they're throwing it away.

Lillard -33
Lopez - 35 Both of them
Middleton -32
Connaughton -31
Giannis -29
Crowder -33
Payne - 29
Thanasis - 31

That's a lot of firepower there, and if this doesn't get straightened out, we're going to see most of these guys abandon ship.

Even the front office talk about "trading Connaughton" is stupid. This is the guy who turned down millions to stay a Buck, to help them sign free agents, and they're talking about trading him to someone because he has a "team friendly contract." WTf? That's no allegiance at all.

If anyone believes that Lillard wants to be there, they are sadly mistaken. If he gets the chance, he'll bolt out of there as soon as possible, and shake his head wondering why he allowed the trade to go through.

Anyhow, that's my opinion. Not too popular I'm afraid, but I'm a pragmatic, not a team cheerleader. They get paid to win, not show up and look like the Washington Generals playing the Globetrotters.

okay, you've convinced me. time to fire peter griffin.

If they bomb a couple more in a row, I don't think they'll hesitate pulling the plug on Griffin. The problem is, the #1 assistant is Vin Baker, and I don't think he's even close to ready to be a HC. He wasn't even a good defender and rebounder himself, in the NBA, despite having the length to do it. He could not position himself correctly to box out the opposition.

But, that's neither here nor there. Two guys I suggest. Both available. Rivers or Stotts. Both have been there before. Both preach defense. This team doesn't need to be told how to score, they need to be told how to stop others from doing it.

CBS Sports gives the Bucks a B+ midseason grade. Pretty much saying they are good on offense but it's there defense that kills them and if they don't figure it out they won't win a title with it.

That is something anyone will agree with.

I watched a taped replay of the Bucks/Pistons game. Absolutely no defense, and Griffin seems to be oblivious to it.

The reason they get blown out in some games is obvious. You can't exchange baskets with teams, if they play defense and you don't.

They let the Pistons go 21/37 from 3-point range. That's a whopping 56.8%. They normally shoot 35.3%, and average 11 out of 31 per game. They feast on the Bucks lack of outside defense. Despite our not playing D on the outside, they got 9 offensive rebounds. We out rebounded them 49-40, but nearly 25% of their rebounds were on their own misses, and we didn't box out. That's part of the blown defense.

I dunno. Something has to change. It's not going to be pretty after this season is over.

The Bucks did win last night. They swept against Detroit. The Pistons have only won 4 times this year, and Cade Cunningham is still out with an injury. He's normally the biggest scoring threat on the Pistons. Our defense was nearly respectable, but against a decent team it would have still ended up with us getting the short end of the stick.

I'm still waiting for that shutdown game, where they take a decent team and hold them under 100. I'm not going to hold my breath until it happens.

MKE this entire season has held one team to under 100. That was Charlotte who scored 99 against MKE.
