Yes if you don't see him as a top 5 QB why pay him the biggest contract in NFL history?
And again I ask you…what’s the alternative to remain a playoff team. And why does it have to be top 5. And your assuming he’s asking for Watson $$ which as we have noted is more an outlier

Each team is different. Look at Baltimore's roster and frankly there aren't many guys due for massive deals besides Lamar. If they were hard up it would be a different decision making process, but in their case the only down side is cash out the door, and what's the point of hoarding cash in the NFL?
Exactly. Each team gets what $400m in revenue to pay salaries.

I’m in agreement with “what’s the alternative?”, but I do remember when we were discussing Kirk Cousins guaranteed contract as an outlier.
I have to believe that landscape is changing.

Depends on leverage or should I say panic.

Right. It's like Monopoly money. The TV companies give you a check to play football with. It's kinda wild how Baltimore has invested their draft capital, they may have some guys to pay but at TE, RB, interior OL and some years from now S. All the cheapest positions on the roster. I think they already did Marlon Humphrey at CB, they traded away a potential expensive WR. There doesn't seem to be anyone else to pay except Lamar. He's got an MVP, he's shown he's got the goods, no gruesome injury he's coming back from. There's no need to do it right now and I don't know exactly what he wants but I don't think a near-top of the market deal is inappropriate.

Here’s the thing. If as an organization you can draft a kid who can replicate Jackson’s numbers yeah go ahead. But history tells us that’s not a sound strategy

I think Cousins contract opened a Pandora’s Box
Again, leverage. As long as there is a tag system, it's hard for guys to hit the market in max leverage situations. Cousins couldn't be tagged again. The Browns were desperate for Watson and Houston was desperate to get rid of him. Not the norm, at least not yet.
