I wasn't disappointed in Dillon. I thought he was learning. He went from a guy who at first was running into the backs of his blockers because he couldn't sense the hole developing, to understanding where that hole was going to be, and getting into it. He showed leg strength when he got there, and was hit.
He won't be a Jones. At least I don't think he will. But he won't be bad either. As long as he has learned his blocking assignments, and how to run his routes, and is a disciplined blocker, he'll be a decent contributor.
I don't think he looked that much different than Jones in his first year in the league, except for the polish, which comes from an extensive preseason and practice.
My concern lies more with where we go with the DL, ILB, WR, and OL. I see the need for upgrades in several positions in those areas.
As far as QB, I think the Packers let Boyle go because of cap restrictions. Like it or not, Love will be our #2, unless they can sign someone to work for a million or less, in that role - if Love blows up. Boyle would be a $2 mill cap hit or more, even in a qualifying offer, and that will be way too much to keep.
The Packers are going to have to cut $20 mill plus on their cap hit. It's going to be tough watching where some of it comes from. Players no longer play for the "team," when it comes to money. Even if Rodgers did reach an extended contract agreement with the Packers to free up money, it's going to cost the front office dearly, for failing to kiss his ring, by drafting Love. No matter who the players are, egos come into play.
