Packers 2022 Thread

This is the last gig for the band. It's going to be broken up. There's nothing that can be done to salvage it. At this point, they should be looking to get anything they can, for anyone they can, so they can get under the cap, and gain some draft capital to try to start the rebuilding process.

If you're going to end up with 5 or 6 wins, go full hog, and drop to 1 or 2, and get one of those pick of the litter picks in a draft or two. It's a good way to put a couple of thoroughbreds in your barn in the future.

While it doesn’t help getting under the 2022 cap, trading Bak AFTER June 1st would clear another $14M and net them either a 1st or 2nd round pick in 2023 to help with the rebuilding process.
That extra space could allow the to pick up a couple FA’s still floating around. Not saying they’ll find a Campbell or Douglas again, but might help fill a couple holes left from the carnage of Feb/Mar that will undoubtedly have to happen.

Extending Jaire is a no brainer, but woul reworking/extending both Amos and Clark make sense as well to reduce their 22’ cap cost?

Can't do it all.... If you tag Adams and rework Rodgers you are basically dead elsewhere. All the scenarios are above...they haven't changed. You literally need to cut 19 of your guys to make that work and can't repeat can't sign FA.

This is the yr GB sinks or swims with the front office moves long-term.

At this point it's better to bite the bullet, get rid of cap problems, grab picks you can, and start a 3 to 5 year rebuilding plan, with the idea that if Love has what it takes, fine, if not, it's time to find someone else in the draft.

If they do shed so much talent, they will certainly have early picks.

Well then shed Jones and Alexander also. My point is it’s next to impossible to evaluate Love unless he’s got some supporting cast.

Thing is even if you don’t extend 17, 12 leaves and the Smiths depart it not a bare roster that needs a full rebuild. Sure some won’t accept a 9 or 10 win season but more won’t accept 3-5 years of Jets type football either.

Bad organizations rebuild, good organizations retool.

I agree with your point but as you like to say follow the math. By keeping some of those you screw yourself 4 yrs down the road...yes keep one of the 1,000-yard rushers, trade the other and replace with a complementary rookie on a rookie salary, etc. Do you keep Bahk and that huge $$ or roll with the guy that won something like 8 straight this yr when everyone went down at 1/4 of the price?

You're correct in that it's not bare-boned but at least next season your depth is paper-thin if you don't do some serious cutting of high-priced vets. The point is it's not a simple formula.... a couple of wrong moves could push this team one way or another.

Nobody said they should gut the team. Where did that come from? I said get rid of the high priced talent, because in all honesty, it's not going to buy you wins, and it will cause the team to be gutted at other positions, and depth. There is no future if there is no money to create that future. The time will come where being able to afford that one or two high priced free agent will be an asset. Right now, without making dramatic cuts, they won't be able to afford signing free agents to fill out the roster.

Alexander will be high priced talent if you extend him and in 2023 Jones is going to cost you $19m in cap space also. And if your going to deal 33 for picks it’s now when he has some financial flexibility. Hell Campbell might be now high priced talent

I’m not hoping to keep both Rodgers or Adams, just saying that Bak (because of age & contract) might be something to consider after June 1st.
