Pack to sign Funchess?

SMH don't know why some people are acting like this is a great signing and he's our #2 WR. You don't want a #2 WR to be a guy who was signed after pretty much everyone else at WR in FA signed and signed for a cheap 1 year deal and has a poor catch rate. This is the type of guy you sign to be your 4/5 WR and not count on to be a #2.
I really dont get all of the handwringing on this one. Is he a #2? probably not but newsflash nobody else on the roster is. But he also not a #4 or #5 either. He's an upgrade over anyone not named Adams and maybe Lazard.

I look at 2017. 63 for 840 and 111 targets, he fixes the drops then what, same thing in 2018.

No need for hand wringing, but it does make me wonder about Gute. He clearly has a WR type. I thought he was collecting those WR types because MM wanted them but he's doing the same for ML so I think it's him.

i agree with andy herman: "One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to plug every hole on your roster to be great. The 2010 Packers had no RB, started Charlie Peprah & Frank Zombo on defense, & had a ton of injuries to deal with.

The Chiefs had holes at LB & CB. You don’t need to be perfect."

Yes, but the flip of this is that you DO need to be REALLY GOOD at a couple things.

At some point GB actually needs to get better at TE, WR, OL if they want to compete. Has not happened this year, lot of pressure to get the draft right.

Yep Rodgers is no longer at the point in his career were he can take below average and average WR's and make them look good. He's at the point he still plays above average but needs more then one above average to elite WR/TE's to help him.

Maybe because of the dismal lack of talent in that WR room beyond Adams

I've read that he's a good blocker for a WR - helps the run game? No numbers on the deal yet so I won't say it's wasted money until I see how much they wasted. With any luck in the draft and continued development from the guys we have he hopefully won't be anything more than a #4/5 guy by mid-season.
The blocking thing makes me think they might try him at TE. Dude runs like a TE. Not a speed merchant.

Then again he's an upgrade over Geronimo.

Not stating this is fact. Just offering a possible scenario. Maybe it isn't the receivers who are the problem. Maybe it's really on Rodgers, or the coaches? We can offer all our opinions, but we really can't use the past as points to judge Rodgers, because, as some of us have suggested, his injuries could have altered his game to make him far less effective.

It's all conjecture.
