What is going at Packer HQ?

The only reason we're ranked high in contention for a Super Bowl is the Rodgers mystique. Nobody around the game will count the Packers out as long as Rodgers takes the field. They guy has become the gold standard of how one person can make a team relevant, when they don't have the depth of talent to be there.

Without Rodgers, we would be in the lower 1/3 of the league, and possibly as low as 25th or 26th on that list, not 5.

I wish I knew what's going on in the front office, but I have a hunch that the situation surrounding getting Rodgers signed long term was the #1 priority, and as far as any other pieces of the puzzle to win - they could wait.

Most of us believed from day one that this dual leadership bit was not going to work with McCarthy and Gutey. Even before it was announced how it would be run, McCarthy was running at the mouth as to how he was going to "handle things." He pretty much spiked the ball, and said; "I'm in charge."

Maybe this whole thing with dumping guys is this; "Not Packer people" thing. Maybe not. Maybe it's more along a line of Gutey cutting these guys because he wanted to show he was the guy running the show, not a "weak coach" who let people screw things up, and walk away clean. I don't know.

Yet, there is one thing that I'm totally positive about. The hierarchy in Green Bay is a mess. Even if Murphy does clean it up at the end of this year, he's already shown weakness in his decision making. That will come back and haunt him until the day he too is gone.

Pack u might have the players cut blame on the wrong party.

To me this smells of MM. Has an over sized ego obsessed with power and thinking the smartest guy in the room and on field.

Go back to Sitton. Listening to pre game last week with Dix kind of said using his words carefully leading one to believe same thing.

Message is old and maybe he read Lombardi book but got wrong message. Would seem he's out of tune with team and his only option left is to get rid of players that mess up as a way of striking fear back into players to show who has the power and trying to get something out of his team.

Just a thought ;)

Can’t see it. Dix went too that was Gute. It’s a mini purge. 2019 will be worse

Time will tell I guess. It might be both of them would be the easy answer.

Either way we expect at least a 1/3 of roster turnover as Gute gets his players. And that's before we get a new coach/system in and players for it.

I don't doubt for a minute it's going to be a purge. As I look across the depth chart, what I see is bad. We don't have depth, and we are relying on guys in a lot of positions who may well be past their "sell by date." I'm not saying they aren't talented, to a degree, but are they really worth the money they get, can they stay healthy enough, and are they someone you should replace instead of resigning.

During the Sherman years, we'd reached a point where Sherman was throwing substantial money at guys who weren't as good as the money they got. It's what happens when your roster ages, and the only real stars on the team are near the end of their careers. You pay too much for too little return. Think "Moneyball" at this point.

Let's hope they don't act out in desperation like Sherman did, and create cap problems. It can cost a team for several years, and there isn't that much time left where we can put Rodgers in harness.

With Russ Ball controlling the purse strings I don't foresee any cap problems being created, but (IMO) that will also mean a "slow" purge of personnel rather than "wholesale".

Remaking the roster isn't going to happen in 1-2 years, and that's unfortunate for Rodgers.
