Brewers 2022 Season Thread

If it does not show on the meds and he was hiding it is one thing , if they knew it well that’s a different issue

The Lamet thing to me is a bigger issue.
He mad no sense to add to trade in first place with his piss poor ERA. My guess is Brewers were told by SD you take him back or no deal.

ERA is not the only data point to evaluate a pitcher. His WHIP was very respectable in SD and as I have said in the past you can’t look at things in a vacuum. I doubt that was the make it or break if part of the deal. They just as easily released him. He’s also pitched 2x since the trade so it’s not bad enough for a DL trip.

Sterans made 2 questionable and 1 downright stupid trade at deadline. He has wasted the prime of a very good pitching staff by failing to try to get anything but bargin bin bats that sucked. The Mets likely no longer what him in charge with whom they hired and results they have got. Stearns will likely find another GM role if fired but doubt it's in NY anymore likely with another rebuilding ball club.

And what was the alternative? Your losing Hader anyway in the off season, there were no bats of value available and no DC was not moving Bell for Hader. It’s a small market team with a budget that is not that dismal. If you want to place the blame, place it on scouting the past 2-3 maybe 5 years and develop something in the system. Now add in your production from Yelich.

It’s not like Milwaukee was the only organization looking for bats and this deadline made that very obvious

Yelich seems like a guy who played lights out of the contract got it got hurt then said screw it I am not going back to old ways were I swung hard but it hurt my back. Changed his stance and how he swung screwed up his power and now is no where near what he is getting paid.

Though if you want to blame scouting I blame Stearns for hiring a inept scouting dept.

I still think moving Hader at deadline was mistake. They got very little from him and I would have rather kept him and just dealt him for what little they got in off-season hoping he fixed his issues before end of season and got higher return if not and they got little back then I would have not been as upset as he was only a year left and had a whole season were he could not find his groove back.

There is no evidence that Yelich said “screw it”. None. If you look at his swing post injury it seemed slow which is not the same as swing speed, more he had issue picking up pitches and played hurt.

As to Hader you get the same value in December as you do not. His WHIP since July has been over 2 and SD is making him go plus innings which is not optimal. Personally his issues are he’s lost velocity and that impacts not only the fastball but slider. It’s not crisp ….and probably a good indicator of what advanced scouts thought of him.

As we all have agreed on the draft is a crap shoot. And for a small market team to produced since 2018 has been impressive. They don’t have the resources of a Stl or LA. They have been impressive in developing pitching but bats have lacked.

Well when you got from a power bat to a guy who won't swing at anything it makes me say he does not want to swng anymore like he use to. He got paid and IMO does not want to try to risk injury like he used to when he was going for big numbers for a big contract

Heck brewers pitching has even been questionable anything in the first few rounds for MKE has seemed to never pan out it's been the guys in the 4-7th rounds who seem to be the gems.

I have to disagree with value on Hader unless he gets hurt I don't think you get anything less then the little they got from SD.

Well that’s my point on Hader, you won’t get more especially if his velocity is down. If you watched his last few outings his slider had no bite to it and guys pulled his fastball. Again I think he’s lost velocity. I can guarantee you scouts had a gun on him and probably was not pretty.

I 100% disagree on Yelich. It’s mechanics. He’s late on swings and it’s not his bat speed. He’s just late. Back issues cause that

It's bene shown Yelich has althered his stance and swing he is not swining the bat the same pre injury

For obvious reasons not because he wants to avoid injury. Back injuries can cause major issues because of the turn and hip turn. Not a cop out just the way it is. Watch his swing sometime.
