Why did the team cut Tim Masthay?

I think that's because they claimed him off waivers. If they did that with Colquitt they'd inherit his salary but I'm pretty sure he cleared waivers to he's a FA, free to sign anywhere for the best money he can.

There was no improvement coming from Masthay. He'd peaked. Bringing in Mortell exposed that because the kid was actually out-kicking him until the third preseason game. Then he choked, and it was all over.

People might want to think about the connection Mortell's family has to the Packers as well. He worked for them in the press room as a runner. His Dad works with them. His Grandfather before him worked with the Packers. These people bleed green and gold. After he was cut, it's possible that Masthay was on a bubble himself, and something he said, about the kid getting a tryout with the Packers was kind of "nepotism." Gotta remember, most players travel on their egos. It goes with the game and attitude.

If anything even close to resembling that kind of remark in the locker room, to a blogger, or anyone would put the entire Packer brain-trust on alert to dump him. The Packers are a family, in every respect, inside those walls. The players earn big bucks for working there, and move on for more bucks, but the people who are there, win, lose, or draw, are the fans who have devoted endless hours working in venues inside the stadium for generations. You don't slap "Uncle Chuck" in the face by suggesting he lets nepotism be a factor in their decisions.

The first paragraph is based on things we've all seen. The second two are a possible scenario as to why someone gets sent packing without there seeming to be any reason.
