Packers 2023-24 Season Thread

Knee was messed up so go in there get it cleaned up with team paying for surgery and rehab so when he knows team cuts him in March he can hook up with new team and be ready to go with them at start of TC and try to hobble out another 1-2 years. To me another surgery on that knee just buys a very short time. That knee is heading towards full knee replacement in near future.

A lot of they think in his talk.... that's not a 100% we can fix it

As much as I may gripe during the games, this year actually is kind of exciting in a weird way fro me. I don't have any win or loss expectations and it's been making each week that much more interesting. It's like they could be in every game or not, you just don't know and it makes it worthwhile watching. Years past there would be expectations of this game or that game being a win and talk of playoffs and playoff implications but this year I've let any of those expectations go and it's bee a lot more enjoyable to watch the games.

How has everyone else's experience been so far?
Good topic Bud. I'm pretty excited too. I'd say right now I've seen enough of Love to know that he's able to make the kind of high level throws that a franchise QB needs to make. He's not doing it consistently and still piecing his game together but as the team gets healthier I have a kind of nervous expectation that it's going to come together for him sooner or later, and I enjoy that feeling and that process. Dunno, maybe I'm being naive. Like you said, it's one game at a time now and every game is an opportunity for something new or cool to happen with these young guys.

I am an unrepentant Bahktiari apologist so I know I'm prob in the minority, but if I were GB I'd keep my options open with him. I hope they're open to working something out contract wise that keeps him around for a much smaller deal. But who knows, maybe he wants to play elsewhere. I also really like Zach Tom but like Jenkins I think he's good on the outside but could be a difference maker inside. Point is, even if they try to keep DB they can/should draft an OT first priority for the future. Keeping DB doesn't stop any of that, play the guy on the right and move Tom inside where he should be anyway.

32 years old bad knee to much of a gamble to extend him.

Sure sounds like he likely knows writing on wall and that it is what it is and his time in GB is ended. Just business nothing personal.

This would be worse case for GB. Also wonder if GB might have to wait until TC starts to cut him. If he can't pass a physical say in March when new league year starts GB can't cut him so they would have to wait until TC starts and players report and take their physical if he passes that then they could cut him. If not GB is pretty much screwed to try to extend him into 2025 him just because they could not take on a 40 million cap hit for a guy who likely is never going to play again.

I have really enjoyed the lower expecatations, except for listening to Packers fans who have the same expectations, or national media who expected J-Love to come in and be an all pro day 1.

So far, I've been impressed with the play of a few players. Love and Doubs particularly come to mind. The season itself is going about as well as I expected. It's fantastic watching a team trying to rebrand itself at QB, after having so many years of consistently high level play out of the position.

As I've said repeatedly, I saw this as a 7 win season, and anything above that was gravy. If that's as bad as it gets, with the turmoil and cap problems they have, I'd say it's been successful. Because there's no doubt it can go up from there, and not many teams can turn things around that quickly.

The only quasi-disappointment I have is in the defense, but when I consider the massive number of injuries that have hobbled front line starters, and specialists, I'm not even going to go off on them, but I will say that the coaches need to find avenues to harness what they do have available, not keep repeating the mistakes, and expect something different to happen, like LeFleur said himself.

When I look at the loss of the two pro bowl level offensive linemen that makes up the left, I totally understand how difficult it has to be for the coaches to come up with lineups that work, when the entire left side was in a state of flux since before the season began.

I think it was a bad mistake if anyone believed that either Bakh or Jenkins were going to be a serious part of any of our offense this year. It was doomed from the start, and everyone should have seen it, and prepared accordingly. Sadly, they didn't, and here we are, with gus running in and out of the lineup as they search for a combination that can at least represent an NFL offensive line. If they get this right, and some of the defensive players actually heal, and can help the team, they could exceed those 7 wins. But, until I see #8 going up on the board, I will doubt it happening.

There's also an elephant in the room that we need to address. The offensive line is so porous that there's the possibility of Love getting injured. What happens then?
