Another reach pick in the 3rd round by GB. Seems nothing more then a ST player.

Read... rethink that statement> not just a ST guy

well, nfl.com had him projected as a 5th round pick. not that means anything.

An off-ball linebacker with length, speed and agility, Hopper is lacking in field vision and instincts. He can be a step late to diagnose play design and has moments where he looks lost in coverage. Hopper has sideline-to-sideline range and plenty of physicality to hit what needs to be hit. There are holes in his game that can be exploited, but he has traits and should get a chance as an NFL backup with special teams value.

I have no doubt Hopper can eventually contribute from scrimmage, but in year 1 I suspect he's more of a special teamer, which is nothing to sneeze at. I think he went a little early, but there was a mini-run of linebackers in Rd3 and it kind of forced Gute's hand, just like last year when there was a run on QBs, forcing Gute to take Clifford a little high as well.

TY’RON HOPPER, LB, MISSOURI

  • Rd. 3/Pk. 91
  • Height: 6-1 ½.
  • Weight: 228.
  • 40: 4.71.
  • Wonderlic: NA.
  • Hometown: Alpharetta, Ga.
Fact/Stat: Started four of 28 games at Florida from 2019-’21 before starting 22 games for Mizzou in 2022-’23. His verified weights were 250 in spring 2022, 232 in spring 2023, 231 at the combine and 228 at pro day. Multiple shoulder injuries.

NFC scout: “He definitely was not a green dot. He was on the other side of it. He’s a low-test score (player) and there are some concerns with his mental. He is a really talented guy. Very productive. Outstanding athlete. There will be guys that run faster than him but the twitch, the suddenness, the urgency he plays with all the time really jumps out at you. Now he’s not real instinctive. He’s got the low-test score that also makes you think it’s gonna be a problem. His toughness was very inconsistent because he’s a little bit of a narrow guy. When he gets engaged he gets knocked around a little bit. He wants to run and hit. He flies around and hustles, but he turns stuff down too often to where it’s a concern when he’s fitting blocks. I have a hard time giving a guy a starter grade with average instincts but his movement was so sudden I was still willing to put that grade on him. His coverage is good. His basic zone drops are outstanding. When you ask him to play in man coverage he can match guys. Just leave it simple and just ask him to do what he does well. I think someone will take this guy in the sixth round and be pleasantly surprised. Unless the instincts are so bad where, ‘Nah, it’s too far gone.’”

AFC scout: “Limited play strength to set the edges or strike and shed inside the box. Falls off a lot of tackles. Questionable mental and football intelligence.”

SO, I will say this re: drafting two heavy pursuit LB's for Hafley's Scheme

This to me says more than anything the LB unit as a whole is going to be used to bring pressure.

That's all I can say. BUT, both Cooper and Hopper are very downhill players. Hopper might have 17 missed tackles in 2023 (which is def yikes) but he also averaged more than 20 pressures a season at Mizzou. He is a pursuit player.
