Upcoming Schedule

You know, going 8-8 might not be the worst thing for us. It will force the powers that be that something has to change and if a team needed new blood and a new approach it is us. :(

My biggest concern is not necessarily having a bad end to this season. I'm more concerned about the fact that the Packers have historically allowed the bus to go off the cliff before making changes. There's an allegiance to the people who run the show. It's family, and letting someone go is personal.

I understand that philosophy, and I applaud it. It's how you build unity. It's how you create loyalty. Yet, it's a business, and everyone is there for a period of time, not as a lifetime career.

The reporting is definitely becoming more edgy and the stories being written and broadcast are certain more to the point and defiant. I think the media sharks smell the blood in the water and are starting to write and say the things they have been holding onto for a while.

I can understand that as a beat reporter you need to be careful. Slam the team and personnel too hard and they make it tougher on you to do your job. However, once they think you might be at or near the end, they turn on you in a hurry and the reporting gets more harsh. They know you are not long for the job, so like sharks they start to circle and take shots.

I just get sense over the last few weeks that the media is hitting harder in their stories than in the past. They can sense that MM and maybe TT have lost the team. It's going to get worse in the coming weeks if the losses pile up, and I suspect they will. A 4-4 finish or worse is certainly a possibility and you get the feeling if that happens, the the status quo cannot be maintained. They will need to shake things up - and not just with a couple of asst coaches getting the ax.

7-9 or 8-8 wouldn't be the worst that could happen. Maybe even ARod suffering a two to three week injury would help in the evaluation of the offense. Unless of course the BOD would interpret that as an excuse to keep MM.

As a draft fan, that would put us into the upper half of the draft with no AJ Hawk in sight! RB Fournette or WR M. Williams territory.

Fournette goes top 5 don't think we get that high unless it's total implosion.

To get into the top 5, you couldn't win more than 6 games. We're going to see teams tanking them real soon, trying out subs, to see about next year. If you win 7 games, your best pick about #9 or 10. Gotta remember that 8-8 is about a 16 pick.

The thought I was entertaining was 7-9 might get you to pick 10.
Fournette won't go top 5. He's not the polished product Zeke Elliot was coming out. I would compare Fournette's value closer to Gurley (even though Gurley was coming off injury) and he went 10th in his draft. Fournette's talented but not as accomplished as Elliot was coming out. Plus, few teams are in the Cowboys position with a great OL, star WR and solid TE. It took that perfect storm to elevate Elliot's value to top five. IMO.

If fans want change you almost need a 6-10 season. That happens fans will be in a uproar and you figure if TT and MM are not gone they will be placed on a very very hot seat. A 9-7 season you miss playoffs injuries are used as a excuse and MM and TT will likely be facing not much heat on their jobs.

To me right now you can write in Cleveland, SF, Chicago, Jacksonville, and the NY Jets as your top 5 in the NFL draft for next year.

That's pretty much been the story of the last few years as far as injuries and hot seat escapability.
