Now that draft is done am looking at our competition on paper. Not doing grades here but possible impact as it relates to the Packers.
Lions: Didn't draft a QB so all of their eggs are in the basket from the trade. They got arguably the best LT in the draft,an athletic pass rusher, and one of my favorite CBs fron the draft had slated for the Pack and can play Slot, outside and big/ fast enough to cover TEs.
Bears: Might be biggest winners of the draft IF Fields comes close to the hype. Bears have always had good/tough teams but lacked the QB and might finally have one. Also beefed up the OL with 2 Tackles.
VIke's: Filled their biggest needs by getting one of top LTs from draft but still have same QB.
So what it means....over-stating the obvious, chasing the Pack are looking to negate the pass rush and apply pass rush against whoever the Pack have at QB.
IF Pack are to remain top dogs, will need better D-Line play from players not named Clark and better Edge/OLBer play outside of Smith. Either both Gary and P. Smith will need to bring it on a consistent basis.
It's great that we drafted Stokes but might need time to adjust to scheme. And even if All Star Secondary can only cover for so long.
On Offense, wow. More questions then answers at this stage on an unit that has been the strength of the team as we had one of the best O-Linew when healthy and always a chance to win when AR at the helm.
As of now, don't know that Baht will be ready by season start and what level will be able to play at. Lost the best Center in NFL and most likely be starting a rookie there. And though we have a bunch of young players from last two drafts, don't know what we have until battle proven. The O-Line is the one area on the team that must play and think as one cohesive unit.
The receiving group needs to take a step forward. This is the year MVS must take that next step and be consistent. We need one or more of the WRs to be able to get open and open and take pressure off of Adams.
QB- Wow who would have thought we would have a question at this position. Think most of us hope AR and FO work and patch things up. IF not and Love plays, there will be many questions until we see how he does.
Regardless of how things turn out this season, should be an interesting upcoming season
