Gute needs to improve on his late round picks that's were the bulk of your ST players will come from and it's clear he has not been doing well on those picks.
He's been better with his 5th round picks than he has with his 6th/7th rounders.

Your late round picks are guys to develop and ST players. But over the recent years teams are using 6 and 7th Rd picks on players you afraid will sign w another team as an undrafted free agent.

Also remember when you have a playoff team there is only so much room on the roster for players. Though recently they expanded how players a team can have.

This was Ted's issue he would move down to get more 6th and 7th rounders to take guys who were ranked likely as UDFA but Ted did not want to fight to try to sign them.

Too many times Gute is drafting guys in those late rounds that he seems to envision/intend to be position contributors nearly immediately/early on in their careers.

4th - J'Mon Moore
5th - Cole Madison, JK Scott, MVS, Kingsley Keke, Kamal Martin
6th - ESB, Kadar Hollman, Dexter Williams, Jon Runyan, Jake Hanson, Simon Stepaniak
7th - James Looney, Hunter Bradley, Kendall Donnerson, Ty Summers, Vernon Scott, Jonathan Garvin

I highlighted those that were either starters, or significant contributors immediately or early on.

I did not list the 2021 draft class, but if I had you could also include
Royce Newman
Tedarell Slaton

Shemar Jean-Charles
Cole Van Lanen
Isaiah McDuffie
Kylin Hill

The last two drafts 2020-2021 have brought in some potential better quality ST's contributor in Scott, Garvin, Jean-Charles, Van Lanen, and Hill.

But when you are looking for "starter" type players in these latter rounds, I think you end up passing over guys who are quality special teams players. Too many times these late picks are guys who were starters in college and played little/none on special teams.......................and it shows.

It's really sad to look at the 4th round picks, especially, and see that Gute has made only 2 picks in the 4th round (J'mon Moore and Royce Newman). He's traded away all the other 4th round picks to move up in the draft.

IMO, the 4th round is a very important round. It's the first picks of Day 3, after you've had a chance to reset your draft board from Day 2. When you have to wait ~70 picks on Day 3 before you get to make your first pick that day, how badly has your draft board already been decimated?

Just bad draft strategy, IMO.

Well he's likely to get a 4th for Lindsley and either a 5th or 6th for Williams for comp picks so hopefully he can use them well.

Gute's so "bipolar" in his drafting that it's hard to figure out if he's any good or not.

Early picks - Rds 1/2 - Alexander, Savage, Gary, Jenkins, Dillon, Myers, Stokes are good picks. (Love is a largely unknown). So he's sorta mostly hit on 7 of 9 picks on those rounds. If Love works out he'll be fantastic early.

Mid picks - Rd 3/4 - "nada" (Royce Newman may be the best of the bunch and may just be "serviceable". Deguara and Rodgers have been somewhat of a disappointment so far). He's maybe gotten an okay pick on 1 of 6, so he's bad.

Late mid/early late - Rd 5/6 - MVS, EqSB, Keke, Runyan, Slaton have be contributors worthy of their spot in the draft. Not terrible considering the lateness of the picks in getting 5 out of 15. He's just okay here.

Late - Rd 7 - Garvin and maybe Hill have been okay picks. Meh, not horrible, but nothing to write home about.

Basically Gute should keep all his 1st and 2nd round picks, trade away all his 3rds and 4ths for 2nds, 5ths and 6ths, and just throw darts at the board for Rd 7.

Agree also. And not to mention all the blunders they made for 20 plus years of bad drafting and trades. I used to have saved all the players we could have had in those years drafting and passed over for bums. Players like Okaye and Derrick Thomas are only the tip of the iceberg.

Don't have much faith in Gute and drafting as his failed picks that aren't here show already and players he passed on.
Gutey has by far a higher drafting percentage than .300
