Rodgers Wants Out

Maybe this is for a different thread, but what would the mechanics of an Adams tag/trade or sign/trade look like?
 
Favre made an appearance on “The Opening Kickoff” on WNSP-FM 105.5 in Mobile on Tuesday with Mark Heim and Lee Shirvanian and thinks this was it for Rodgers.

“I think we may have seen the last of Aaron in Green Bay,” Favre said. “I don’t know that for certain. It’s just a gut feeling. He may try his hand somewhere else now.”

You would have to clear $20 million in cap space first to be able to apply the tag as soon as it's applied it counts vs the cap. You then have to give his agent permission to go talk contract with other teams and work out a contract and if that's done work out trade comp with the team. If you work out trade comp Adams would then sign his FT and the Packers could then trade Adams to that team in which then Adams could sign a new contract with that team.

I think more than $20m needs to go. The rule of 51 applies I believe so I would think a decision on Rodgers has to come first and since that can’t be executed on 1st day of league year it’s not as simple as $20m

Yeah I meant just for Adams alone you need to clear $20 million just to absorb his tag. You would also need to fit Rodgers under cap and that would take a lot of cuts and reworked contracts to get this done to be able to afford both. Only way this works is if you could get to agree to any FA you want to sign to agree to wait 3-5 days after new league year when you could move Rodgers and have to trade Rodgers and Adams at the same time to clear their cap numbers off the books. Then you could move to sign any FA you have a deal with. Which I guess is possible because usually you agree to a contract but are not often running out to sign it the same day as both sides need to get pen to paper.
 
With a sign and trade, couldn't they work out a deal with Adams and the trade partner to have as low an initial cap hit as possible?

You have to shed enough to get both under the cap (Rodgers & Adams ) which with tag would be about $60M+ alone. Not sure the exact amount that gets total cap to but it would be more than currently. The issue is your locked on Rodgers number past 1st day of league year. I just don’t see a way there
