Rodgers Wants Out

I always think of how Ron Wolf believed that you drafted a QB every year, because you needed back up competition and you never knew when you'd find a diamond in the rough. I hope that's exactly what the Packers begin looking at in upcoming years.

That doesn't mean draft one in the first round every year, but draft one for value down lower in the draft, and work on developing him over three years. It's still the best way to find someone who will fit into your system. Develop them.
I agree with this. The team found several QB's they were latter able to flip for draft picks as they turned out to be decent

Fans always matter teams bend to fans demands a lot
Teams bend to talent they can tolerate. Fans are a commodity that buys merchandise and tickets. Fans only matter when it impacts their bank account

But with cancel culture today players who have off field issues are be shown the door a lot quicker then they have in the past.

First I agree with drafting a QB each year, it’s a reliable backup. As to development I think it was easier to develop and trade in that era. Different cap dynamics. Plus with limited camp and pre season it’s not as much of a showcase now.

You tolerate talent. Rodgers is a perfect example. If it’s a player who’s replaceable sure he’s out. Cancel culture is not going to make a team let a pro bowl type player hit the road is 99% of the situations

I mentioned Wolf's idea as a guideline, not something cut in stone. But I would think in terms of at least bringing in a free agent QB that you think might be able to be developed. It gives you an inexpensive plan to create a potential back up if nothing else.

We have Blake Bortles can develop him. No were but up for him at this point. LOL

I would lean on drafting over a FA. Guys are on the street for a reason. My point was more that it’s more difficult to develop a QB in todays NFL. You don’t have 4 pre season games to showcase a Hasselbeck.

I think you get the idea. A guy on the reserve squad who's learning the system, who can be activated if needed. Someone that you promise will get a fair shot at the back up next year. You pay them as much as you can to gain allegiance. They don't have to leave when someone claims them.

Not saying they shouldn’t draft a QB on a regular basis, but the days of MM’s off-season QB school are long gone.

It makes it harder to identify/develop that diamond in the rough
