Rodgers Wants Out

Right now for next 3 months I think media will do nothing but talk because I think right now until right before TC you will see likely nothing but rumors coming out form the media on what's going on as neither side is going to speak and nothing will come of a deal I think until shortly before TC.

I think that part of the struggle is that people don't see Rodgers the way everyone was seeing him last year when we picked Love. He looked like maybe he was on the decline. Instead of saying he is some sort of god on the field, the pundits were talking about how he might be done and that he was falling out of the elite conversation as a quarterback. People are framing the Love pick and decision as though Rodgers had come off an MVP campaign in the season previous. I think that the Packers will sit on Aaron Rodgers. They will do their best to fix the relationship, but Rodgers asking for Gute's job is ridiculous.

Gute admitted his fault by offering an extension with additional guaranteed money. Gute has also done an incredible job of both adding an influx of new talent through the draft and free agency and extending the Packer stars.

I very much hope they can just work through it. It feels like there are better ways to bridge the gap of hurt feelings than by asking for a successful GM To be fired. If it can't be worked out, I hope the Packers sit on Rodgers unless someone trades us a King's Ransom.

We can discuss Gute's performance as GM, but to me it's irrelevant in this context - this isn't a bleeping beer league here, you don't fire the GM because an aging star player doesn't like him. I saw another bit of media spin that's obviously coming from the Rodgers camp, that Gute picked Love without ML's input. That's a bit of divide and conquer media spin that's transparent to anyone with half a brain is coming from Dunn on behalf of his client. "My guy has no problem with the coach, it's just the GM. The coach agrees with my guy!"

Rodgers has always shit talked the org to the media, and in this case he's really biting the hand that fed him. Like Packersunion just said above, he wouldn't have had that monster season without 1.) ML's offense opening things up for him and 2.) having a fire lit under his ass by the Love pick. I don't know what the best move for the team is, it's just a mess with no way to win at this point, but I hope they hold firm on him and call his bluffs.

Wonder if behind the scenes Gutey took Arod to task for his part in NFCC loss? Especially some of the more boneheaded plays? Like hey dude you aren't perfect either no matter what your regular season stats say back off....?

Yesterday in Gute's PC someone asked would you give Rodgers more a say in personal matters if he wanted it. Gute said that he would welcome any thoughts Rodgers would have and listen to them. I think this is part of issue. Gute pretty much said he would listen to what player would say but he is not going to give them any kind of control and go out and sign or trade for a player just because a current player wants that guy. Gute is going to make the final call. I think Rodgers wants a say in how the team is run. Perhaps if the fire Gute is true this is why because Gute will not give Rodgers a seat at the table when it comes to personal matters.

Again just my pure speculation reading some comments from 2-3 weeks ago and up to now
  1. “I think I put a wrench in someone’s plan”. One thing about Rodgers that is not debatable is he’s smart and calculated. Remember Love and Rodgers are both repped by Athletes First. Conversations happen and my gut it that someone in for organization communicated to Love’s reps that yes they plan was for 2 years and hand over the keys. Word got to Rodgers and to say the least he was not pleased
  2. “I have no control over what happens”. See point #1. Just a guess now, “Team Rodgers “ knowing the timeline asked for a trade. Maybe some ideal destinations, not a formal demand but what’s best for both parties. “Team Murphy” balks at the idea and basically tells them we will do this on our timeline
  3. “The Contract”. When things escalate let money fix the problem. But “Team Rodgers” was 95% sure there was no extension coming. “We are working thru Aaron’s Contract” is code for there is no new contract except for maybe more for 2021 and 2022 but we are not messing with the cap. But “working thru” is also we are working thru some other more important issues
  4. “The GB Trip”. You don’t send your agent to GB to negotiate a short extension or restructure. It’s not like it’s the first rodeo for either party and it’s not a Mahomes mega deal that needs a lot of math and long term planning. Dunn went to GB to formally ask for a trade and request permission to find a trade partner / deal. That was rejected
  5. “The Trips Part 2”. Once a trade is off the table and you now have a pissed off dug in MVP we are now at to the point of desperation. It’s like that talk you want with your girlfriend knowing your getting dumped but you your making one or 2 tearful pleas “let’s try and make things work” , “I will try harder to be interested in things you like”. Hey we’ve all been there and know it never ends well
  6. “The Spin”. Both camps will spin and leak, both have already. Buckle up because the GB PR machine run by “Team Murphy” has some flaws

I think the only thing Rodgers really cared about - in terms of pushing him over the edge - was the team drafting his replacement, and not just drafting his replacement but trading up. It shows a kind of desperation and lack of faith in him that they traded up for Love. And ya know what? At the time they weren't wrong. Go back to post-2019 season and Rodgers still was considered to be on the decline after having lackluster years from 2015-2019, with bits of brilliance in between. But generally, and I know I don't speak for him, I think he was more or less at peace with how they did things, he knew they weren't going to let him make anything like personnel decisions.

Thing is Rodgers also takes everything done to him as a personal slight. He was not drafted high enough personal, He sat on bench for 3 years personal, they draft Jordan Love personal, Someone cuts in line in front of him personal. Maybe he does not need to take everything said and done to him as a personal grudge and hold it against people.

Ha, yes. It's especially funny because he likes to cultivate this laid back, zen, go with the flow, "beautiful mystery" persona in the media, but his behavior suggests he's really neurotic, sensitive and has a bit of the Patrick Bateman/internal screaming thing going on.

Winner)

How this plays out will be part of the Murphy/ Gute legacy for a long time. Perception is reality to players and agents and it’s important how they are treated and communicated with. Like it or not players have power especially elite guys like Rodgers. It’s a dangerous precedent to set when you strong arm the league MVP or even perceive that you did. Athletes First is probably next to CAA the most powerful representation group in the NFL. Organizations need to have good relationships with them. Agents push players to certain organizations for that reason. Trust. Murphy needs to be aware of that and do what’s best for the organization and player both short term and long term
