Makes me wonder did Murphy tell Gute give 12 whatever he wants to stayThat’s what my guess was the retirement option was real and has been for sometime and announcing it around shareholders day was a nuclear option. One week ago, sports books pulled odds due to “information” that he might retire. Coincidence maybe but it was out there. Dunn pulled the same strategy with Palmer
I think there is that much resentment that this was not only considered but a true option. Timing is everything. And yes might be coincidence but the timing was telling to me. Add in the 2 leaks on “highest paid” and “2 years $90m” + the retirement thing something came to a head.
His “stay” is 2021 and that’s it. He was never going to sign any retirement papers, just a symbolic announcement. This was about what it’s away been about, control of the timeline and he won the battleMakes me wonder did Murphy tell Gute give 12 whatever he wants to stay
Thus, succinctly, sums it up, imo. Well said. This might sound odd but two things are facts. #1 Rodgers / Dunn asked for contract concessions which were consistent with what has been reported, he wanted to control his future. I don’t fault him for asking, it’s business. The issue is #2 the organization caved and how and why they caved with sufficient runway with leverage is just malpractice. That’s my issue today.
Plus the battle to screw the Packers over in future by limiting their trade comp by him controlling were he goes and having to take a bad contract back in Cobb. For all this GB should have said screw you retire. His “stay” is 2021 and that’s it. He was never going to sign any retirement papers, just a symbolic announcement. Asking has been consistent in his demands, it’s not about screwing the team. And Rodgers knew and rightfully so that announcing retirement does not make the issue go away on either side. Rodgers retirement does nothing to help GB now or in the future. Both sides know thatPlus the battle to screw the Packers over in future by limiting their trade comp by him controlling were he goes and having to take a bad contract back in Cobb. Yeah but GB should have NEVER gave him control on were he goes. That screws the team because now they have to take whatever is offered for him.Asking has been consistent in his demands, it’s not about screwing the team. actually it is when you factor in Cobb deal and timeline
