Agree with some of what you're sayibg but not so much this part. Gute has been pretty active in FA's early waves. There was the Smiths/Turner year that worked out well. Then in 2024 he hit early and well on Jacobs and McKinney. Gute has actually done pretty well on pro-player acquisition.
It's his drafting that's just so Jekyll and Hyde for me. He's not a disaster in the draft, but frustrating at times. He values athleticism too much. Yes you need good athletes, but get better football players.
Also, stop with the versatility stuff. A good center will win you more games than a guy who plays mediocre center and guard. Find me a left tackle, not a guy who can play both LT and RG.
I don't think their problems are as bad on depth as lacking in difference makers. Who has he drafted that's been a real all-pro quality difference maker. There was JA for a few years and Gary is almost there at times, but other than that, NADA. Yes he's gotten some quality guys, especially in that 2022 draft, and Kraft has that potential, but there are almost no guys a team needs to gameplan for. No field tilters.
