Post Game Packers Defeat Eagles

Isn't it enough that Rodgers is in the pantheon of all time great QBs? Can't we leave it at that, and let it be good enough, without these other superlatives? Personally I like the world where Jim Brown and Jerry Rice and Lawrence Taylor are the GOATs. That world makes sense to me.

so you still have superlatives, but you just associate them with a bygone era?

1. Players from previous eras have their play put in context and their achievements stand the test of time. We know it was harder for those guys to play their positions in those days compared to now with rule changes. Who knows what Aaron’s career will look like years from now?
2. Sports leagues have culture, and like all cultures, they are at their best when they have unifying mythological figures. Newcomers can and should be absorbed into the mythology but I think it’s good give the old timers their due.

i understand your premise, but imho most of those legends of the past could not have competed with today's athletes. they were (in general) smaller, lighter and slower. it's great to have that mythology, and i love many of those legends. i'm 63 and i remember watching them play when i was a kid. well, obviously not the guys from the 40s and 50s. i caught the tail end of the lombardi era though.

Za'Darius Smith had 1.5 sacks on Sunday and is the first Packers player with double-digit sacks in back-to-back seasons since Clay Matthews (2009-10). Smith, with 10.5 sacks this year, now has 24 sacks in two seasons – the most by a player in his first two seasons in Green Bay.
Too bad Z Smith does not do anything else. Like stay home and set the edge or tackle well.

We brought in Z knowing he was pretty much a one trick pony. Our Defensive Coordinator - and Head Coach - should be designing the defense to unleash their pretty pony. If all he does is rush so be it.

Considering he’s led & leading the team in sacks and QB pressures I think they have accomplished that
