Post Game: GB Knocks off Chicago 10-3

It's my understanding that our shiny new offense is supposed to be quick hitting, move the chains, and dictating pace to the opposing defense.

We did not do that. Yes, the Bears defense is great. But by constantly worrying about their changes and trying to react, we allowed them to dictate to us. If they are always switching, they weren't where they wanted to be until the end. Go even if it isn't perfect. Dictate to them. And, get the ball out. Playing fast will gas their defense.

"A good plan violently executed right now is far better than a perfect plan executed next week." Patton.

Rodgers is controlling this. He must get better. Fingers crossed.

Nope Nope and Nope..... go back reread my post earlier. Where ever your reading this crap stop. The run sets up the play action which also can include motion.Best analogy is the one about the split back veer in Remember the Titans...it's like novocaine...give it enough time it'll work. Inside zone....Outside zone..... again and again even if it's 2-3 yards until the ILB and Safety get lulled then BAM! Play action deep.

problem is that we were only getting -2 to 1 yards. you at least have to get some forward progress. our running backs suck. or at least they did in this last game. of course neither of them had a single carry in preseason either.

Did you see that TD drive? All set up by those negative runs. By forcing the defense to commit you open other things. They ran motion/ play action twice in that drive showing inside zone the backers and safety bite and MVS gets that deep catch. You have to commit to it and show it several times to get what you want.... -2 or +5 you have to commit

Quick hitting includes the run. I thought we were supposed to play faster and dictate terms whether it be run or pass.

Trevor Davis will get a shot to be #2. Kumerow will get a shot at some Geronimo reps. The big question is, why was Aaron holding onto the ball? Were guys not getting open?

As for running the clock down, the defense knows you gotta snap the ball, so there's no mystery as to when it's being snapped, if there's only 2 seconds left. They can attack without fear of being offside.

Offense looked like shit. No excuses. They were not ready.

Thing is, they were pressing a bit. This wasn't a Mike McCarthy lull. They weren't trying to think of what Mike's textbook said to do. They showed up for 60, they were just pressing under that defense. IMO.

The interesting thing about a running game is that no matter how much yardage you gain with it, the fact that a defense has to play for it because you use it, the defense can't sit on the pass.

McCarthy screwed that up by having player personnel packages they'd trot on the field which was like hanging a billboard out there with a diagram of the play. Defenses learned that his field personnel dictated what options they had.

Play option is always a solid run option because it will end up freezing linebackers through repetition.

This is as much about philosophy more than scheme. Mike Sherman’s teams used to do this. Pound away for 1-3 yard gains because they knew Green would eventually rip off a 20 yarder or more. I think MMs flaw was that he’d only run the ball against certain fronts and looks, which as you say is predictable. You need to be willing to hand it off against 7-8 in the box a few times in order to set of play action later.

Conceptionaly from an X and O standpoint that is not the case. Not sure I can explain it better then I have.
I think the offense will work better by increasing pressure with faster pace. You disagree. Someday we may get to discuss over beers
