Post Game: Baltimore runs over GB

i agree, but every once in a while he makes a big-time catch for the offense. his brother is a pretty decent cb, which is why i think they wanted to try him there. but i don't think he has played a single snap at that position. maybe he has and i just don't remember it.
i guess i was correct. zero snaps on defense. so training camp was a waste of time for bo melton.

But way to many fans bought into Melton because for some reason he was a fan favorite thinking he was going to be this shut down CB for the team. Anyone who thought rationally new you don't move from WR to CB in one TC. I think the CB move was just to justify keeping him for ST since you could have not kept him as a 7th or 8th WR just for the ST.

but with all the injuries to wrs, he has actually played 83 snaps on offense. he has caught only four of 12 targets, but all four catches have been either a first down or a touchdown. and although he has had 12 targets and only caught four, only one was classified as a drop. so he has been an effective receiver. he just doesn't get many chances.

As I recall, Murphy made the decision to hire ML. Gute and Ball were involved in the interview process, but Murphy made the hire to make it understood Gute, ML, and Ball all directly reported to him.
Did that structure ever change, and wasn't it originally put in place to separate McCarthy, Gute, and AR12 from each other?

It was changed in order to give Murphy visibility into football ops because Ted was slowly slipping into dementia and no one said anything because he ran all of football ops. Structure is still in place - Gute (player personnel), LaFleur (coaching), and Russ Ball ($$) each report directly to Policy. It's common across the league and I don't expect it to change unless they wanted to woo someone with gravitas for the GM role.

I remember when Harlan determined that the method prior to 1991 of "separate but equal" power or committee-led decisions was not working so gave his GM hire total control over football operations. I think there is value I separating football operations from business/legal side with separate leadership.

I'm perfectly happy for Policy to hold structure as negotiating leverage if he wanted to woo some big fish for the GM job. You'd never give that power to Gutekunst because he doesn't deserve it, but for someone else it's something you could offer to give up to get them, knowing full well that Policy probably doesn't want to be into football ops to begin with.
