Packers 2026/27 Season Thread

Love seeing actual numbers attached to this stuff. You only start 5 OL at a time but effectively need 7 starters. This isn't just a Packers issue (and it is) but shows why OL play is down across the board. Talent pool is lower than ever but demand is higher than ever.

i think a part of that is not because there is less talent available today, but because back in the early days of pro football you just need 5 or 6 big fat guys who were good at standing their ground. as the sport evolved, and offenses and defenses became more complex, you needed big tall muscular guys with good coordination and the ability to observe, think and react in real-time and are willing to put their bodies at risk. there's just naturally fewer of those guys. these are simply the best of the best big guys on the planet. think about it: you need 32 X 7 = 224 humans that meet these characteristics out of nearly 350 million people. it is an extremely small percentage of the population that gets to play at that level. but you have to wonder how many of those who would qualify are being passed over because they didn't play football at a highly respected college.

Many good - great offensive linemen came from small schools and got their shots because of a nasty streak and attitude and enthusiasm to protect and pave the way for their team and teammates.

Our guys let Love and Jacobs get clobbered.

We need, to paraphrase George C. Scott as Patton, "No Offensive Lineman ever won the line of scrimmage getting knocked on his ass for his team. They won the line of scrimmage by knocking some other poor bastard on their ass."

Our offensive lineman have not shown me any Nasty and little attitude and enthusiasm. In the world of Offensive Linemen, they are worthless and weak.

Until that changes...

i agree to a certain extent, and maybe you can say "many" over a long period of time. but i think they are few and far between.

i would not say "worthless". i think a better term is mediocre. most teams cannot afford to have more than one all-pro offensive lineman on their roster. i think the packers' main problem is that they pay their best offensive lineman like an all pro when they perform like a halfway decent lineman. and worse stiil, they just commited that level of salary to a guy who is on ir and may not ever be as good as he once was.
