Packers 2026/27 Season Thread

The Packers wanted to keep LB Quay Walker and made several runs at re-signing him before the Zaire Franklin trade. But it now appears the former first-round pick will hit free agency Monday, and he is expected to have a strong market.

So either Walker number was way to high and/or he just did not want to stay in GB.

i agree. they both have similar numbers. they both suck at pass coverage. they're both mediocre with the pass rush, and they both have similar number of tackles. one area where walker is/was clearly better was in missed tackles. walker had a missed tackle rate of 3.8% last season. franklin has a missed tackle rate of 15.5% in 2025, which was only slightly higher than his all-pro season in 2024 when the missed tackle rate was 12.2%.

He seems to play super aggressive and shoots a lot of gaps, which leads to tackles but also misses.

Overall it's just sort of re-shuffling the deck. I don't think Colby Wooden had any future in GB and I think Quay was always likely to be gone. Sort of traded one weakness for another.
 
There were several DT's being released in last week. I would not be shocked if GB signs one of them and also drafts one or two. You can probably sign one of the DT's being cut cheap enough and get just as good if not better production out of them from what you got Wooden.

gute is going to have to have his foot on the gas pedal to pick up a bargain or anyone worthwhile in free agency. and that's just not his style.
 
You and I can't really judge this trade fully or anything else on defense because frankly, we don't know the scheme our new DC wants to play; he wasn't the DC in Arizona, so those numbers are not useful. I think at this point I will take a wait-and-see approach, less cornerback... no matter the scheme, we need help there.
 
Jonathan Gannon was in Indy with Zaire Franklin from 2018 to 2020, before Franklin was a full-time player.
