Packers 2026/27 Season Thread

Don't think you are going to see any wholesale changes because the salary cap will not allow it. Green Bay could get worse record wise. The room the Packers have in the cap will probably be used to resign some of there own FA and extend some of the guys they have under contract going into the last year of there deals. The depth is still going to be a issue as we all admit it's poor. GB does not have it's 1st round pick and with only 6-7 picks you will only be able to put a small scratch in the areas that need help all over the team. GB had about 90 guys on the roster when the season ended but half of them are heading into FA so will see a ton of roster bodies signed in the next few months to fill out the OTA and TC roster. The other teams in the division and NFC are getting better. Next year could be a year that the lack of quality depth finally catches up to the team and prevents them from getting back to the playoffs. Until Gute is gone we probably won't be fixing this issue as he's the key problem with his scouting dept and just lack of quality drafts.

So who would we hire that's better?

No one, the bigger factor is we have no first round pick for two years, Parson and Kraft are coming off ACL's, the cap situation won't let you add FA or any of impact.

Who the hell wants to jump into that situation? Why work for a franchise where having a great W/L record overall doesn't keep you employed?

Fire MLF, and he's working elsewhere with this same staff next week, but there are no home-run hires out there to turn it around. Sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side. Hard pill to swallow but I think it's true.

Fire ML no. But did say fire Gute. Gute is not the right GM. The Packers need a fresh GM that is not connected to this team. GB has not brought in a outside GM to run this team since Ron Wolf.

Organizations would be salivating to take ML on as their HC. This roster is devoid of talent and across multiple positions groups, year in and year out. GM and his talent personnel have to go and a different roster building philosophy has to be brought in. Until that happens, no coach, will be any more successful than ML has been and I would hate to see him go.

Question #1: what quality wins did the Packers have last year? The only decent team they beat was the Bears. Otherwise they were not very good. Young teams have trouble beating good teams.

Question #2: how many leads did they give up not being able to close out games? Young teams have trouble finishing.

Question #3: can you name the true leaders of this team on the field? I mean real leaders. Not just the ones who give a sound bite after a loss. Guys in the field who elevate those around them. Young teams lack leadership and experience.

See the pattern? As long as Gutey keeps this team this young they will not have the talent, leadership, and grit to win in the playoffs.

Temper your expectations for 2026/2027 because these are deep foundational issues that can’t be fixed easily. And let’s be brutally honest, this roster is not that talented.

The good? GB has one of the best coaches in the league and a top 5 QB. Kraft is a monster in making.

As much as everyone is gnashing teeth over whether to keep ML, have we ever considered that he may be sick of it too and walks himself? I wouldn't blame the guy. Gute is doing him no favors
actually, i have thought about that. i think most of us agree that gute is the primary problem. he's below average in his drafting decisions, and many of the free agents he signs are also below average. he has done a poor job of scouting and acquiring talent for cb, ol, and dl. every year he makes strange decisions in the draft, and often with day 1 and 2 picks. those are the premium picks and so often they are head scratchers. what ml has achieved with this mediocre group of players is very impressive and if a team with better talent is looking for a new head coach, i would think that ml would be pretty high on their list.

Dolphins and Falcons will have him on a plane in hours... The ATL would kill for 9-11 win seasons every year. He would be a friggin hero.
