Packers 2024-25 Season Thread

Stole this from another board, but it was just too good not to share. From Drew Magary, formerly of Deadspin, now at Defector:

In each of the past three years, the Vikings have had a late-season game against Green Bay that had major playoff implications. They lost those games by a combined score of 111-37. On national television.

I think this is a good move, certainly couldn't hurt. One of the weak spots of ML's tenure has been identifying the best positions for guys on the OL and identifying "best 5" arrangements for them. That's something that worked fairly well under Campen's tenure so having his eyes on this stuff might help them.

I'm not certain what Campen actually brings to the table. He was a solid center, but just because of that, and being a Packer, doesn't necessarily carve out a career as a top level mentor for players.

The fact that he's going to be working more from home in Florida makes me wonder what exactly it is that he brings to the table.

I'm not even going to guess, but not getting one bit fired up over it.

Back to Campen. He has been an offensive line coach in the NFL, and nothing of noteworthy information has been posted about it, except he "did a good job." They say that about everyone, including guys they fire, for not doing "a good job."

That said, his actual duties will be as a scout in Florida, and I'd assume surrounding areas like Georgia, etc. That I'd say he could handle, with certainty. He'd at least be able to identify realistically decent guys playing interior offensive line.

Some of these scout jobs are offered because a guy wants to stay part of the family, and the team liked what he gave on the field, and honor the request.

From the SI Mailbag: From Joe (@JoeAtWork87): What's a realistic scenario for Matt LaFleur to win Coach of the Year?
I don’t know, Joe. He certainly should have won one by now. Here are the facts …

• He won 13 games in each of his first three years, and reached two NFC title games.

• Aaron Rodgers won back-to-back MVP awards under his tutelage.

• He effectively managed the acrimony between Rodgers and the front office.

• He developed Jordan Love behind Rodgers over a three-year period.

• The Green Bay Packers made the playoffs and advanced a round in Love’s first year starting.

He’s lost assistant coaches and adapted. He’s dealt with unfavorable headlines. He’s turned most of the roster over, and consistently had answers developed on his roster when older stars have gotten hurt or moved on. LaFleur hasn’t won a Super Bowl, or even been to one, but in just about every other way, he’s been a home run hire.

Mark says.....Told you so.

Agreed! The man has done an amazing job handling things with the chaos surrounding them from the Rodgers dramatics, and the Bakh injury bleed of cap space. That, coupled with other problems, I don't know of anyone I'd prefer having had navigating through this period.

I think he should have already been coach of the year, from what he's done.

Agreed, LaFleur has been very good.

But, he hasn't had his team up for or won the big one. Hope he changes that this year.
