Official Week 13 Green Bay vs Atlanta Thread

I thought it was a nice gesture, whatever the motive, for Murphy to let MM say goodbye to the team. Coaches get fired all the time in the NFL; GB has fired plenty of coaches; they have never fired someone who coached for 13 years successfully and won a Super Bowl. There's no organizational blueprint for that. Mountain out of a mole hill. MM is gone, all his ilk will be gone come February. Chill out.

As for the game, I don't buy the cold weather aspect - these are highly trained professionals we're talking about, not batteries. Everyone will deal with it. Players are performing for roster spots next year, here or elsewhere - that and pride. Show us what you're made of.

I've worked in a large corporation for a long time now. I've seen both scenarios. Director was let go and stayed on for a week of transition. Next director was let go and escorted out of the building. Slightly different scenarios but both worked out fine. Part of the reason is that it was a department of mostly professionals who have careers and futures to consider, so no matter who's in charge you do what's right because your future is on the line as well.

Having MM address the team doesn't change a thing for most of these guys. Players will play because they have future contracts to consider. Coaches will coach for the same reason. MM getting closure might make the players who liked him feel better and shouldn't change squat for the guys who didn't really care for him. It's not like he was some abusive total failure of a coach that you wouldn't want near the team. I agree it's "odd", even for the NFL where odd happens more regularly than other businesses, but I don't think it impacts from a long-term perspective. This year is lost. Next year will depend on what Gute and the new coach do and MM talking to the team one last time won't change either one.

I'm pretty sure Murphy had second thoughts about how he went about it the moment the media started blasting him for doing it so unceremoniously. The fact the team gave MM a standing ovation after his talk also tells you Murphy probably realized the tone inside the building was something he had to consider. MM himself wasn't surprised it happened, was just caught off gaurd on the way it happened.

If Packers fire him and nobody bats an eyelash then I don't think this happens. But the blow back was surprisingly swift and harsh in the media and even from a lot of fans.

I applaud Murphy for realizing this and making the right choice...

I'm also amending my previous guess about this game.

The only thing that's changed is the HC and the guy calling the plays. A guy who hasn't called a game in 20 years. Injuries continue to mount. ATL by 3 but it will be low scoring.... Possibly same 20-17 as last week.

Now if the team goes out and puts on a clinic, scores 40 and blows ATL out of the building, it will confirm that these guys quit on MM. Which is actually really bad. Because it would show their character in a negative light.

If we score 40 this weeks it confirms that AR is a petulant coach killer. Future applicants (and teammates) beware.

if we score 40 it proves nothing at all. atlanta could very easily give up 40 points to any team on any given sunday.

I say the Packer by something like a 27-24 score. I agree though if AR looks "great" again, you have to wonder. It's not so much about the score (Atlanta could suck on Sunday). It's how individuals play - like AR.

Yep, if we won by 40 points, it says nothing, other than what we have seen for years, McCarthy is a poor coach and has poor game management and play calling. How anyone can twist this to be about Rodgers,....I don't know. Even yet more overreaction and blowing things out of proportion

I don’t think the score matters as much as body language. Rodgers has been aloof most of the year for whatever reason. I don’t think the team quit on McCarthy but some players did.

Rodgers has become a diva no doubt. What if he than said I don't give a crap about what you are trying to do the offense should be run to what I want? Seems the same thing with Favre and Sherman were Favre pretty much said FU to Sherman and did what he wanted.
