PACKERS TRAVEL WEST TO PLAY THE 49ERS
The Green Bay Packers will travel to Santa Clara to take on the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in the first preseason meeting between the two teams since 2008.
It will be the Packers’ second time playing in Levi’s Stadium after a 17-3 win in Week 4 of the regular season last year. Green Bay leads the all-time regular-season series against the 49ers, 31-27-1, and is 4-3 vs. San Francisco in the postseason.
Green Bay has played the 49ers eight times since 2008, with five matchups coming during the regular season, two in the postseason and one during the preseason.
The Packers and 49ers have met four times during the preseason, with Green Bay’s only win coming at San Francisco in 1959 (24-17).
The first preseason matchup between the two teams took place in Minneapolis in 1951.
Dating back to 1970, the Packers have played a preseason game in the state of California nine times, with their last trip taking place in 2012 when Green Bay traveled to San Diego. Of those nine, the Packers only won twice, with both wins coming against the Oakland Raiders, 37-24 in 1997 and 37-7 in 1970.
Green Bay is 2-0 in the preseason for the first time since 2009, when it started 3-0.
Friday marks the first of four consecutive road games (two preseason, two regular season) before hosting the Detroit Lions on Sept. 25. This is the first time Green Bay has closed the preseason as the away team in the final two games and opened the regular season on the road in the first two games.
The Packers will finish the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 1.

Heard Florio remark today on the radio that the 9ers and Browns are the 2 teams he thought that were most likely NOT to make the playoffs this season.

I just hope we come away from this game unscathed with ZERO injuries. FCC(

The 49ers will always look their best against a Dom Capers defense. D was stout against CLE and OAK but we may see some bubbles burst.

Anyone know why NFL Network is going to the game at 11:00 pm EST when they have nothing scheduled prior? NFL Gameday starts at 8:00 pm EST?

The full game will be replayed Saturday at 4:30 pm EST

just remember - these are not the 49ers that you are thinking of. these are the chip kelly 49ers, led by blaine gabbert. there's not a single wide receiver on their roster who had over 700 yards receiving last year. their best running back had less than 500 yards last year. aside from linebackers brooks and bowman, the defense has pretty much been gutted. i'd be shocked if these guys win six games this season.

Hey ec, I think it's league broadcast restrictions. They can't air one game nationally until the other nationally televised game ends. There's an 8pm ET game on so they have to wait until that one ends.

This is a new 49ers team. Everything has changed on offense and defense. They're still trying to figure out who they have that can play in their schemes.

The Packers could look good and bad against them at the same time. You can't plan for a jail break mentality on the field, and we're going to be seeing 49er players doing anything and everything to impress. Especially when they don't have a clue as to what they were really supposed to do.

I have mixed feelings about tonight. I want to see the starters play but I'd hate to see anyone hurt like we had last year.

Has anyone heard if Clark is going to play. Heard he sat out yesterday with back issues.

I won't stay up and watch the whole thing so I'm counting on you all to give good reports.

I suspect Clark is out based on what I was hearing on the radio earlier today.

We don't seem to have a lot of luck when it comes to new defensive linemen. It seems like a lot of them end up injured and having very little camp time before their first season starts. They end up a liability for the first half of the season.

Just once I'd like to see one come in and end up being dynamite when the season starts.
