When you score 32 points in any game, chances are you are going to turn some heads. It also is likely to set you up for some awards down the road.

So it should come as no surprise to see that Wisconsin Badgers center Ethan Happ was named the Big Ten basketball Player of the Week. It was his second-straight weekly honor this season and the same for his career.

Happ didn’t just have himself a quality game against Rutgers, he started off the week with 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the win over Penn State. Add in the 32 points, six rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks against Rutgers and you see why this was the easiest call of the season for the Big Ten office.

It was a great week shooting for the redshirt sophomore, who hit at a 63 percent clip from the field for the week and averaged 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game as well.

On the season, Happ is averaging 14.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and is shooting 60.6 percent from the field. Happ has done most of his best work in conference play — ranking fifth in the Big Ten with 17.1 points per contest, fifth with 8.1 rebounds per game and leads the conference with 2.8 steals per outing.

Wisconsin finds itself in a tie at the top of the Big Ten with Maryland. Both teams sit at 7-1 in league play and won’t meet until the middle of February.

The Badgers will travel to Illinois mid-week and host an injury-ravaged Indiana Hoosiers team to end the week ahead.
