They'll have to do a study sponsored by the Colorado Growers Assc. to show that smoking cannibus somehow eases the effects of concussion syndrome. Then they'll be handing it out like they used to hand out vicodin. It'll take a real 'grass roots' effort!

"The NFL's policy against medical marijuana is stupid and counterproductive," said Dale Gieringer, director of the California chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. "There's no doubt NFL players would be better off with medical access to marijuana."

OK the study hasn't been done but the connection has been made and many think the NFL should lead the way in funding studies into whether or not cannabidiol can help in prevention or healing of CTE.

As it turns out, recent studies are starting to contradict the notion that marijuana kills brain cells. Last year, researchers at Tel Aviv University in Israel gave low doses of THC, one of marijuana’s primary cannabinoids, to mice either before or after exposing them to brain trauma. They found that THC produced heightened amounts of chemicals in the brain that actually protected cells. Weeks later, the mice performed better on learning and memory tests, compared with a control group. The researchers concluded that THC could prevent long-term damage associated with brain injuries. Though preliminary, this is just one of many promising studies exploring marijuana’s benefits for the brain.
