Wow...that's kind of a surprise. Wonder what that means for Fick and Crew?

Terry Gawlik may come into play...she was the assistant AD for Barry and spent the past 6 years at the U of Idaho, spent 25 years at UW, her husband was a research scientist in Madison, and they raised kids there.
The kicker is that she hired Jason Eck at U of I before he went to New Mexico; that pairing worked before. Jason Eck would be a coup for UW if Fickell goes... Alumni would flip over those two.

Unless he can win like 8-9 games he's gone I think even if he gets 6 wins and a bowl game that won't save him.

Greg Gard needs to be on watch also. He only got to the sweet 16 one time and that was his first year with all of Bo Ryan's guys. Since then he's never made it past the 2nd round.

Gard is going nowhere... sweet 16 stuff is silly, he wins consistently and makes the tourny, he's very well respected by his peers and runs a clean program. UW fans need to stop with the "championship" expectations.

agree. for wisconsin fans to expect their football or basketball teams to be the best in the nation is silly. the fact that the football teams consistently get a bowl game and the basketball teams consistently make the ncaa tourney is about all they should hope for. if anything better happens, that's great. it would be exciting if they someday get to the ncaa football playoff, but i just don't see it happening given the academic requirements and the lack of nil money, but we can dream i guess.

I think having expectations is great, but if you get a coach that, for example, got UW FB into the playoffs every year but never won the whole thing... thats not a reason to fire him. At this point, that person would be held in high regard.

Gard is fairly consistant and has found decent talent that fits the UW culture. UW has limitations, and Madison, WI, isn't for everyone; again, fit the coach to the program and the local culture.

It's why Gawlik as AD and Eck as Head FB coach make sense as they both already get the culture and challenges... to me thats a big piece of the puzzle, maybe not the A-list sexy hire but people that can compete every season ..and an administrator that can help them do that.

The new AD will not have it easy.

I can't imagine donating money for NIL without a glimmer of hope of a championship.

Women's sports are OK. Women's hockey and volleyball are championship quality. Women's basketball is improving.

Men's sports are not stable.

Men's Hockey just had a tremendous run.

Men's Basketball is day to day. It would be hard to part with Gard. I think he's a good coach, gets his players to over produce, but his teams fall short when it counts. Right or wrong, I think NIL money will decrease without better tournament results.

Men's Football is desperate. I really thought Coach Fick was the answer. I'm surprised how bad it's been. It's amazing that the W has become a sign for a win on our opponents' schedules. Quarterback injuries have been devastating, but even our pre-injury starters were horrible. I don't think squeaking into a bowl game will save Coach Fick. His first big game is opening day at Lambeau. I think he needs a win. If Bucky gets blown out, I think Coach Fick will be let go after the season. I think Coach Fick needs 8+ wins and the Axe to keep his job. I don't know how he's going to do it.
