a focused film study on our new backup qb (2024 preseason)

i can't vouch for the accuracy of these because i ripped them off another packers forum:

-According to NBC Sports. Malik Willis ran a 4.37 40-yard time while at Auburn.

-During the 2021 season. Malik Willis recorded 90 broken Tackles. That was 1 more than Michigan State RB Kenneth Walker III, but Malik did so with 66 less carries.

-The former Titans QB forced missed Tackles on 60% if his runs.

-Malik tied Lamar Jackson for the “most missed tackles” recorded since 2014.

-Highest rate of Big-time throws since 2015
Malik Willis 11.0% (2021)
Josh Allen 10.6% (2015)

-The talented gunslinger finished his collegiate career after accounting for 7,307 total yards and 77 total touchdowns in 23 career starts.
5,112 Passing
2.263 Rushing

-His Bowl games record? 3-0

This is not at all to argue with you personally, rb, about him, but all of these stats are why the NFL-media complex was hyping him as a top 10 prospect, and why people who watched him play and were saying "no way, not a high end prospect" got drowned out. Sometimes the production just doesn't match up with the player.

Willis cheap option for this year and next as backup. Can see GB draft a QB in later rounds or sign a UDFA they can keep on their PS in 2025 and then make as their backup in 2026 when Willis is a FA.

Let's add to that....College stats> Don't always equal Pro production or development.

Especially when the stats were put up playing for Liberty University, which plays some smaller, and much less talented teams. People forget that Willis bombed out at Auburn, and transferred to Liberty because he was never going to play for Auburn. He just wasn't good enough.

That's why I question his speed qualifications. He couldn't cut it at Auburn, where speed is more prevalent, and we all know when you get to the level of Liberty, the speed isn't there for the smaller schools. The speed merchants, who could catch him, were all on their way to bigger schools.

Unless he proves it to me, I think this was a waste. I hope the Packers realize that activating Clifford, and having him work as QB2 is a wise decision. Willis is going to make them pay if they don't.
