2026 NFL Season Thread

Bernie Sanders wants to pass a bill were if a team goes for sale it has to allow 1 year for a local investors or public ownership to buy the team before it can be sold to anyone else. Every US pro sports league has a ban on public ownership. This guy hates capitalism unless it benefits himself. With prices these days what local groups are going to be able to afford billions of dollars to buy a team? Unless you have a local billionaire that wants to be the lead investor it won't happen but yet ties up the sale of a team for over a year.

He's upset because a new owner could move the team. Despite any move needing approval from the rest of the owners of the league to move the team. I think you look at most of the current owners most of them are not local before buying the team. But yet the teams have remained in the city. Nearly every time a team has moved it's been when the current city would not pay for a new arena/stadium.

Only time in recent memory I can remember a team being bought with plans to move it was when Stan Kronkie bought the Rams with no plans to stay in St. Louis and to move them back to LA.

the colts moved from baltimore to indiana literally overnight when baltimore passed a law that allowed the city to take over the team by eminent domain. passing a similar law on a national level is insane. they keep chanting "no kings", but they want to pass laws that give the government more control over people's lives.

Yeah just posted I believe it was 42 years yesterday the Colts moved as the day before the state of Maryland passed legislation that would have given Balitmore the right to seize the team. So Robert Irsay not wanting to see if they would actually do it called moving fans had the stadium loaded up in the middle of the night and the semi trucks sent in different directions and to meet up at a central point hours later. Funny thing only thing the Colts did not take with them was the band equipment as the band leader had the key to the room were the equipment was kept so the people packing could not get into the room.

The NFL issued a memo to clubs this weekend prohibiting public comment on the ongoing CBA negotiation with officials due to what the league says is the sensitivity of the ongoing discussions. The memo stressed that while the league has the highest regard for the game officials, officiating must improve, and that the NFL proposal would enhance the ability to hold the officials accountable for their performance while offering generous compensation packages. The union continues to resist those efforts while seeking raises almost double the rate realized by players over their last two collective bargaining agreements and millions in marketing fees. The ongoing dispute between the NFL and the union representing the game officials will be a topic of discussion when club executives, general managers, and head coaches gather at the league meeting in Phoenix, which begins today.
