1 vs. 1s:

  • Oladapo and King drop ints in the first 2 1x1’s but both had fantastic coverage.
  • Heath beats dunn.
  • Johnson beat Robinson on a nasty slant
  • Lumpkin overthrown
  • Reed smokes Bullard for a td on a slot fade
  • Doubs catch short vs CV
  • Golden smokes Nixon on a slant - beautiful hands catch again
  • Hicks contested catch vs Baldwin. Good hands.
  • Sims catch vs Oladapo but pretty good overage.
  • Sheppard not on same page as QB on a comeback route
  • Heath clean win on an in vs Herring for a td
  • Zayne shuts down a TE
  • Hardman slips, King almost with the pick
  • Valentine pbu vs Doubs
  • Nixon shuts down Golden
  • Bullard with a good jam on Reed but Reed still wins and catches it right near the sidelines for a td.
  • Harris good pbu on Johnson
  • Melton pbu vs Sheppard
  • Lumpkin td catch vs Williams - good coverage
  • Hardman beats king for a td
  • Doubs easy td vs Valentine after Valentine talked a ton of smack on their last rep
  • Golden almost a sick one hander vs Nixon but incomplete - good coverage.
  • Hicks beats Omar Brown easy for a td.
Offense:

  • Starters: Love - Jacobs - Brooks - Kraft - Golden - Doubs - Morgan - Banks - Jenkins - Rhyan - Tom
  • Brinson jumps offsides allowing a free play for Willis who fires downfield for Hardman who draws the PI from King
  • Savion Williams with an impressive catch along the sidelines from Willis.
  • About the 100th bad snap of camp but this was one of the very few that happened with the 1s. Jenkins airmailed it.
  • Nice burst on an outside run by Abanikanda
  • McKinney got caught a bit on a 3rd & 8 to Heath. I don’t think he thought Love would throw it there but Love rifled one almost no look at the last minute & fit it in
  • Good blocking by Kraft & Golden on the outside to help Jacobs pick up a first. All these plays are 3rd & 8.
  • Romeo Doubs gets behind Javon Bullard and Evan Williams on a post route, and Jordan Love does not miss. Drops a bomb in Doubs’ lap for a 46-yard TD. Packers were rushing Xavier McKinney on the play. Good pick up from Jordan Morgan.
  • Not sure if something happened with Aaron Banks - it was Jacob Monk at LG primarily and then Donovan Jennings got a snap at LG w the 1’s on that td pass to Doubs.
  • Willis with a dime to Hardman for a really good pickup deep right side.
  • Aaron Banks is currently in with the 2’s which is… interesting. More importantly Brant & Aaron are next to each other for an all Banks left side of the line.
  • Savion Williams with a nice block on the outside to spring Chris Brooks for a few yards on a swing pass.
  • 2nd & 10 - Abanikanda run for 4.
  • Matthew Golden beats Keisean Nixon for about 20 yards from Jordan Love on an actual dig route. Really smooth separation against Nixon to the middle of the field, and Love hit his rookie in stride.
  • After nice run by Brooks, Love gets a free play with D jumping offside but Reed slips on low seam throw and can’t haul it in.
  • 1st & 10. Love to Jacobs on a checkdown for about 5.
  • Jacobs inside run. Gary was all over it but they give the first down.
  • Aaron Banks back with the 1’s btw. Wouldn’t read anything into that last series w the 2’s. Looked like a mismatch of players.
  • Love complete over the middle to Doubs but def prob would have lit him up in a game.
  • 1:00 left. Ball on own 45. 1st and 10. Down 7. 0 timeouts.
    • 1s:
      • What a fucking throw by Love on an anticipation throw on a deep out to Reed. feet just in. Out of bounds. First down. Wow.
      • Throw away by Love on the next play. Right decision there. 2nd down - 48 seconds left.
      • Love buys time. Finds Jacobs for the checkdown. 6 yards and out of bounds.
      • Love to Musgrave. First down. Out of bounds. Ball on 20 yard line. 36 seconds left.
      • Throw away from Love.
      • Love throws late across his body deep middle of the end zone. Not sure what he saw. Lands out of bounds barely and harmlessly incomplete.
      • Jordan Morgan had two really nice blocks in a row at LT against Sorrell and Enagbare.
      • Another throw away from Love. 4th down upcoming. 16 seconds left. Need a TD. Ball still on the 20.
    • 2s:
      • Willis complete outside to his TE for about 5. Looks like there was a defensive penalty. 1st and 5.
      • Willis deep shot on a post. Complete to Sheppard. Defense completely lost him. Ball on the 15. Clock ticks.
      • WILLIS TO HARDMAN. TD ON 4th DOWN!!! Gorgeous ball from Willis to Hardman for the td. Hardman beat King easily.
      • Going for 2 and the win:
      • Willis read option keeper, unreal sidearm throw to Hicks for 2. Huge drive from Willis. His best of camp.
  • Another 2 minute situation. Down 1. Ball near/at midfield. 15 seconds left. No timeouts. 1st & 10.
    • 1s:
      • Love complete to Reed for about 15ish.
      • Spike.
      • McManus drills it.
    • 2s:
      • They run a QB power to the right side with Willis as the defense has almost everyone back in coverage. Willis gets out of bounds and McManus drills the kick again.
    • 1’s up again. This time it’s 3rd & 2. 10 seconds left. 1 timeout. Ball at about the opposing 40.
      • Love buys time but throws away. 57-yarder upcoming for McManus. He absolutely crushes it right down the middle. Looked good from 90.
Defense:

  • Starters: Gary - Clark - Wyatt - LVN - Simmons - Quay - Cooper - Nixon - Valentine - Williams - McKinney
  • Quay Walker leading defense in walk through.
  • Willis rollout but Enagbare is there and defense is all over it in coverage
  • Inside run by White goes nowhere
  • Interesting LB alignment with the 2’s. Welch and Hopper are outside with rookie Jamon Johnson as the mike. It’s Welch and hopper in nickel.
  • Simmons all over an outside screen. He’s so damn fast.
  • Quay Walker is the Mike again with ones. He’s joined by Cooper and Simmons
    • McDuffie in for the next snap with 7 and 56
  • Edgerrin Cooper bursts into the backfield and drops Josh Jacobs for about a 4-yard loss. Shades of last year.
  • Devonte Wyatt, via wrecking ball, blows up next play. Haven’t heard much from Wyatt this summer. He needs a big year.
  • LVN and Gary with would be sacks to open up team reps with the ones.
  • Run D making things difficult for Jacobs. Love not getting many clean pockets early either.
  • McDuffie all over an end around to Reed.
  • Jamon Johnson shuts down a check down to Abanikanda
  • Javon Bullard all over a WR screen to Doubs on a 3rd & 8 play. Entire defense did a good job rallying to the ball.
  • Love pressured and misses a checkdown to brooks that wasn’t going anywhere anyway.
  • Kalen King reads screen to Malik Heath before snap, and triggers for PBU a few yards into backfield. Good recognition from the young CB.
  • Robinson bats down deep ball from Willis for Hicks
  • 3rd & 6 upcoming. Defense looks like they had the sack. Incomplete to Savion anyway. Even if it was caught it would have been short.
  • 1st & 10 - Abanikanda run goes nowhere.
  • 3rd & 6 - screen to Abanikanda for nothing. Well short of the 1st. Great defense.
  • Fake end around to Reed. Defense doesn’t bite. Love throws it away. Looks like they called it a sack.
  • Love complete over the middle to Doubs but def prob would have lit him up in a game.
  • 4th & 2 upcoming for the offense - looks like the defense stuffs a run.
  • Of note - no McKinney on that drive. Zayne Anderson came in a the 3rd safety.
  • Corey Ballentine already making plays. Just undercut a short Sean Clifford pass to Johnny Lumpkin for a PBU in his first practice back.
  • Deslin Alexandre makes one big play a day. Nice tfl on a run to his side. He was immediately in the backfield.
  • McKinney back with the 1’s in 2 minute. Zayne Anderson in for Williams this time. Lots of rotating today.
  • 1:00 left. Ball on own 45. 1st and 10. Down 7. 0 timeouts.
    • 1s:
      • Love throws to Jacobs at the pylon, might have had a chance but it goes out of bounds and incomplete. Defense wins.
    • 2s:
      • Willis with a nice back shoulder throw along the sidelines but Hicks locates it late and can’t make the 1 handed catch. Robinson with good coverage.
      • Willis goes fast and doesn’t see anyone - immediately throws it away.
      • Willis buys time but throws it away.
      • 20 seconds left. Down 7. Ball on 15. 3rd and 10.
      • Willis tries Heath but Heath can’t quite get there by the pylon. Heath upset he didn’t get the penalty call against Herring.
Special Teams:

  • Brandon McManus made three more field goals - 42LH, 46LH and 49RH He’s now 39 for 40 in camp
  • Savion Williams as a gunner on punt team and was down there immediately. That was fun.
  • With Valentine playing with No 1 defense with Hobbs out, Bullard playing flyer opposite Melton on No 1 punt cover
  • McManus good from 51, off left upright on 53R & make 56R. He’s now 41-43
  • Brandon McManus is 44/46 on kicks during team periods through 10 practices. He just hit from 42, 47 and 55 to end practice.

Interviews:

  • Matt LaFleur
    • On plan for starters in preseason game Saturday: "They're football players so everyone's gotta go into it expecting to play."
    • On Hobbs: "Unfortunately he had to have something cleaned up. Hoping to have him back sooner than later."
    • On Rasheed Walker: "I wouldn't anticipate anything too long-term. He's working back through it."
    • On Quay Walker: "He should be limited today."
    • On Omar Brown: "He's been really consistent. He continues to maximize his opportunities."
    • Suggests Lukas Van Ness has been held back a bit by a desire for perfection. "This is an imperfect game and sometimes you just gotta go." Said he's doing a better job of that this year.
