  • Former Packers offensive lineman Billy Turner at today’s practice. Turner was with Green Bay 2019-22, before a season with the Broncos, and last year with the Jets. He addressed the Packers team meeting this morning on what it takes to succeed in the NFL.

1 Vs. 1s:

  • Valentine good coverage on Doubs - overthrown.
  • Kraft beats Williams on a deep corner
  • Good coverage by Bullard but sims with the contested catch
  • Heath can’t hang on vs Herring
  • Nixon all over a slant by Williams but Williams somehow catches it.
  • Oladapo good coverage on Musgrave incomplete
  • Hardman had King turned around - went right through his hands deep
  • Robinson pi on golden
  • Doubs cooked Valentine but overthrown
  • Kraft bears Williams deep again - not terrible coverage
  • Fitz wins vs Omar
  • Shep beats Melton on a slant
  • Neyor bears Ballentine on a slant
  • Simmons good coverage on Sims
  • Baldwin pbu on Swinson
  • Hicks win vs herring
  • Golden ran right past Robinson but well overthrown
  • Kraft 3/3 vs Williams. This time on a slant
  • Bullard had great coverage on Musgrave but Musgrave stopped his route and came open at the end
  • Williams beats Nixon on a very impressive rep by the rook
  • Heath had Ballentine on a go but just out of his reach
  • Good coverage by Harris on Fitzpatrick
  • Fantastic route by Hartman vs king for a completion
  • Doubs and Valentine running side by side but also well overthrown. Lot of bad balls in that period.
Offense:

  • Starters: Willis - Jacobs - Musgrave - Kraft - Hardman - Golden - Morgan - Banks - Jenkins - Rhyan - Tom
  • Savion Williams with easily the best end around / reverse of camp - picks up a bunch.
  • Rasheed Walker has returned to 11-on-11 work. Jordan Morgan got first snap at LT. Walker there now with the 1s.
  • Willis finds Musgrave for a big gain on a deep corner route.
  • Morgan at RG. Looks like we’ve got a double competition.
  • Emanuel Wilson going thru team drills today.
  • MarShawn Lloyd also doing 11 on 11 today. Looks powerful and explosive on his first snap with threes.
  • Sean Clifford got a rep with the ones at QB. Willis back in next play.
  • Clifford skied a deep ball for Hicks down the right sideline, Bo Melton had tight coverage, ball was overthrown by a step.
  • MarShawn Lloyd completely reverses fields for a much bigger pickup than he had any right getting. He’s so damn good. Just needs to stay healthy.
  • Kadeem Telfort false start
  • Elgersma misses Hardman high on deep crosser but Ballentine can’t get there either.
  • Willis with a rocket to Golden. Hopper almost made the play but too many mph on that one.
  • Brooks gets around McDuffie on the edge on a swing pass for a good gain
  • Quay Walker comes free inside for a sack on Clifford. Fires anyway over the middle for a good pickup to Sheppard.
  • Willis to Kraft over the middle for a few
  • Sheppard with another catch. This one from Elgersma. Bullard in coverage.
  • We have a drop by Golden. It’s all over. (To be fair it was pretty low - still shocking to see anything near him not get caught).
  • Great ball from Willis to Doubs. Doubs locates it late and can’t hang on. Doubs is down in the end zone and injured.
  • Doubs walking off on his own
  • Willis complete to Golden on a comeback to the left for about 15 yards.
  • Doubs has headed inside the Hutson Center with member of medical staff.
  • Packers WRs currently sidelined with injuries: Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks
  • Packers in RedZone — Willis perfect pass to Musgrave on a corner, beat Walker for a 30 yard TD.
  • Elgersma to Neyor for the 26-yard touchdown. What a diving catch by Neyor. One of the best of camp. 19 to 80. Get used to it.
  • Now Musgrave and LVN collide and both go off to the side. Musgrave currently with a trainer. Just one of those days.
  • layers who looked to get banged up at one point or another: Savion Williams, Romeo Doubs, Luke Musgrave
Defense:

  • Starters: Gary - Wyatt - Clark - LVN - McDuffie - Quay - Cooper - Nixon - Valentine - Bullard - Williams
  • Several times this camp, Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst have mentioned the impact of new DL coach DeMarcus Covington. Brian did it again this morning talking about Lukas Van Ness. Seems that change is paying off. We'll see when real games start.
  • DBs working on tackling angles. Coaches were pretty spirited during this drill. Details.
  • Edgerrin Cooper skies to pick off Willis over middle on second snap of team.
  • Enagbare with a massive run stop behind the line. He was fired up after that one.
  • Mosby potential sack but play continues and Clifford finds Shep on a deep corner.
  • Kamal Haden back doing team - gets in vs 1’s and immediately has a beautiful pbu vs Doubs.
  • Ty’Ronn Hopper just shot through the line and dislodged the football from Emanuel Wilson. Clean contact. Didn’t even wrap the RB. Just a good, hard thud, and the football went sailing. A “wow” play.
  • Coop all over a screen pass to Wilson.
  • Ballentine and Baldwin all over an outside screen to Doubs
  • Cooper is coming on some LB blitzes and pretty much finding the QB every time
  • Rashan Gary just split a double team in one defense vs two offense. Nearly went untouched
  • LVN & McDuffie combine for a stop at the line on Jacobs.
  • Enagbare having a nice day. Would be sack on Willis.
  • Oladapo has really stepped up with X and Anderson out. Just broke up a corner for Sheppard
  • Isaiah Simmons ends practice sacking Malik Willis with blitz up middle on fourth-and-2. Willis throws a deep out to Mecole Hardman, and Evan Williams picks it. Double whammy for an offense that had two long TDs before it.
  • LVN appears to have been banged up from the Musgrave collision too.
Special Teams:

  • Starting kickoff group: Bullard - Brooks - Cooper - Welch - McDuffie - Williams - Melton - Hopper - Simmons - Valentine
  • McManus good from 33, 45L and 47R
  • McManus makes all three from 50-plus. 50L 52R 54
Interviews:

  • Matt LaFleur
    • On Jordan Love's surgery on his left thumb: "From my understanding, it'll happen this morning." "From what I've been understanding, it's a pretty, relatively quick recovery. Hopefully we'll be able to get him back out next week."
    • Says it's "highly unlikely" Jordan Love plays in the preseason finale against Seattle, even if he returns to practice next week.
    • Was there any thought to cancelling joint practice with the Colts given all the Packers' injuries? Matt LaFleur says "no" while nodding his head yes.
    • On health of team: "We're missing a lot of key players that are integral to our success as a football team. It is what it is. It's an opportunity for some other guys. We've definitely had some injuries strike up at some positions where it's made us pretty thin."
  • Brian Gutekunst
    • Confirms that Jordan Love will have a procedure done on his left thumb. Expected to be back next week at practice and not miss regular season time. Happened on the last play when he took a sack.
      • Hoping he can practice, at least in limited fashion, during the week of the Seattle game.
      • Andy Herman's 2 big concerns atm w/ Jordan: 1.) Missed practice time & how it will affect the team going against 2 great teams in Detroit & Washington to start the year. 2.) Does it limit under center snaps & force GB to go shotgun/pistol only which could significantly change the offense.
    • "Yes, absolutely." Gutekunst when asked if he expects Xaiver McKinney to be ready for Week 1.
    • On Jordan Morgan's entry to left tackle: "He's had a really good camp. Played really well during Family Night, and I think he even upped it a level during the preseason game. He's a young player, and I think his best football is going to be ahead of him."
    • "He continues to stack days," Gutekunst said of Van Ness. Gutekunst also noted his consistency this summer.
    • Says Christian Watson likely will start season on PUP, but he's impressed with his recovery and believes it'll be hard to keep him off field much past Week 4: "When you see him run, you want to throw him out there right now. But there's kind of a timeline with these ACLs. He's certainly ahead of the curve, no doubt about it. At the same time, he has a long curve in front of him. We don't want to skip any steps along the way."
    • On Matthew Golden: "He's one of those rookies who has made one or two plays every day. When you start to see that, the consistency with that, there's a long history here of players who did that and have had success in this league."
  • Romeo Doubs
    • Said he did not have time to talk with reporters but when asked if he was good after taking a hard fall in practice, he said yes.
