a team that knows their season is over and figures there is no harm is seeing what their backup qb can do.

I think it's bigger than that, they are saying that their starting QBs tenure is over too. You don't bench a guy for three games if you want him to start again next year.

Tua has not been very good since the year with multiple concussions. He should have retired.

i agree, but i wonder if they plan to keep him on the roster for another year as the backup because if they cut him this season, the dead cap is almost $138 million, if they release him next season, the dead cap is over $99 million, and if they wait until 2027, the dead cap is "only" 31.8 million. any way you look at it, they are in a rough spot.
