2025 Badger Football Thread

Badgers lose another commit for 2026. OL Benjamin Novak flips to IU. WI has zero OL committed for the 2026 class.

Was looking at 247sports for the 2026 WI in state commits. WI only has 1 kid in the entire top 25 committed to UW.

It does suck about Novak, but remember, he's from Indiana. Probably grew up bitching about crappy Indiana and Purdue teams and dreaming of playing at Notre Dame.

He's a 3 Star Recruit. The Sky isn't falling - completely.

I can understand a kid wanting to stay in state if the program's good and the money's comparable. Sounds like Bostad (yes, our old guy that we let go) wowed him and is going to try him at both guard and tackle and figure out what he's better at.

I'd rather have Bostad than any of the guys we lost.

It looks bad. Yes, I'd rather have a couple of big 3 Star Offensive Lineman in place and try to get better, but I'm not going to get in a tizzy.

These kids as is their right are changing their commitments all the time. The commitment really seems to be a reason to make an instagram post - then the glory wears off, and they reconsider (at least if they're not committing to the cream of the crop)

Go Bucky! Figure it out! Find a way!

I think and hope Bucky is aggessively scouring potential transfers for those that went to greener pastures but did not find them. I think that is going to be our salvation. Giving guys that didn't get the shot they thought they deserved AND ARE HUNGRY a chance.

I wonder if UW will be able to keep the 4 star WR and RB they got or if they will flip. I heard schools like OSU, Miami, ND have called on the RB trying to get him to flip

Right now going to have to use the portal. Only 13 players are committed for the 2026 class. Might lose more before signing day in a couple weeks. Plus will lose guys who are already on the roster and get better offers from other teams to leave and come to them. My worry is that UW is going to be going after the mid majors to try to improve off getting those kids. Trying to scoop up kids that no power 4 want won't make this team better. It's just roster filler.

I just want Bucky to get the right kids. Remember a couple years ago when Cignetti arrived in Indiana, he brought in a bunch of hungry mid major players.

It can be done. Unfortunately and recently, the Bucky recruits (1) get hurt, (2) aren't 70% as talented as hoped, (3) aren't very football smart, and (4) don't appear to have much heart.

We need to ride the Freshman Linebackers and QB who at the very least I think are out there giving it there all. They aren't perfect, but they're making some things happen. Hopefully, that can inspire the current Badgers we don't want to leave and inspire players who we really want to be Badgers to come on down.

Losing these OL is not good, but in the grand scheme not the end of the world. They have like 10 guys who will be RS-Fr and RS-So next year so they have lots of young depth. What they really need next year are 2-3 ready to play guys from the portal. They have little experience coming back, especially if Brunner moves on. Mandel might be the only guy with considerable snaps. If Heywood is 100% ready by next fall he should be able to anchor the important LT spot.

yep, you have to start somewhere. what they've been doing clearly isn't working if they can bring in those "hungry" players from the mid-majors and have some success, that will help lure some players from power 4 schools that are good, but feel like they are not getting enough playing time at their current school. that in turn may help with recruiting the high school kids. but you're right - they have to bring in the players that are really hungry to play and are willing to work hard to be the best they can be. players like tucker kraft. those players are few and far between in today's world of sports.

I think the world of those hungry players wanting to go to a school that will give them playing time is gone. We are now in the world of the NIL were hey if I know I am not going to go pro one day I want the most money I can bank in the 4-5 years I got in college and don't care if I don't play that much.
