It's really crazy, his teams at Cincinnati were good. It's not like he forgot how to coach, I think he just hasn't been able to team build.

Coaching at UC, me being here in Ohio and following that program for years, he was able to recruit the local high schools with lots of that 3 star maybe a 4 star talent but they all lived and died to play for the hometown college.

These were kids who were thrilled to be playing at a D1 school and they balled out for their coach. It was a different animal if that makes sense?

Makes perfect sense. Do you think then that the state of WI just isn't producing kids with that talent?

Jumping in. I think today's kids are different. I don't think the NIL kids are inspired by what inspired the pre-NIL kids.

Pre-NIL, we used to have a lot of over achieving, hungry, hustling bastards. We thrived on that. We beat people we shouldn't have been on the field with.

Now, nobody's got that, and we're not close to getting good NIL players. It might not even be money. We're just getting the wrong kids for us, and we're not inspiring them to over achieve.

Basically, in a nutshell, what Fick was doing at UC. Well said, Keg.

Oh, I don't know that we're not getting those players - I think it's more than that. It's just that now they see the NIL that goes to the "better players" and think "why should I bust my butt and not get anything, while he's getting $XXXX".
But we're also not getting the big OL that we used to get . . . without a good OL, it's hard for the offense to get anything done. Our OL was getting beat by the non-major conference teams we played the first 2 weeks of the season - why would we expect that to change in the B1G?
