2025 Badger Football Thread

Sources tell me that Wisconsin CB Xavier Lucas wants to enter the transfer portal but Wisconsin has yet to submit his paperwork. The 48-hour threshold has passed.

People commenting are guessing WI maybe found tampering going on?

there is no tampering.... WTF, just let the kid file. More reasons for kids not to come here

The portal is crushing Wisconsin.

There are many reasons: Position coaches maybe not coming through with promises, Maybe not enough NIL money, Horrible results, Academic standards, Coaches playing favorites possibly over younger less experienced better players, talent evaluation, and an apparent attitude from the young players - I admit this is old school knuckle dragging opinion - don't believe they have to earn playing time but believe it should be given to them.

Probably more reasons

Coach Fick is in a FUBAR'D situation. I hope he can right the ship and navigate Bucky through this.

Fearbry is a solid depth addition at Edge/OLB, though depending on how you count them, it's a position they were seemingly "OK" at. Now they need to find some friggin;' CBs and another QB, spots where they are really thin.

only 4 CB on the roster including walk on..... big need right now

Interesting (weird?) shift in the portal this year for the Badgers. In 2022-23 and 2023-24 they focused on getting transfers from Power-4 and FBS programs. They signed them up in good numbers, with limited results. You could argue that the handful of guys they picked up from the lower divisions were some of their better gets.

In this cycle (2024-25) they seem to have done a complete 180. Almost completely focused on players from lower level programs with only a handful from P-4 schools. Is this because they aren't attracting kids from bigger programs like the last 2 years, or is this a conscious choice?

Maybe they've found that under-performing guys from big programs just continue to be under-performers at another big program, while high level performers from smaller programs are eager to prove themselves at a higher level and will continue to work hard and produce. Maybe they are onto something, or maybe this will blow up in their face next fall and force them to re-think. We'll see. I'm hopeful, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned with such a drastic shift in portal strategy/results.

In no way is it a good thing. To play power 5 opponents you need top-tier level talent across your first 23. I have yet to see anyone in the past 12 years be able to do it with FCS/ d2 talent. We have Bama, Oregon, USC ,etc on the schedule and those teams don't play with their food.

As to the why I think our transfer and academic requirements are a big reason but and we have debated this before, I can go to Madison WI or...... a school thats warmer, more culturally friendly, better NIL $ and less of a hassle to get into...etc and so on. UW is a tough sell. Even if you fired Fick, I am not sure it matters in this era of college FB.

Bucky is in trouble.
